Dr Marios Michaelides earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland-College Park in 2007.  Before his PhD studies, he earned a BSc in Economics (2001) and a MSc in Economic Analysis (2002) from the University of Cyprus. Prior to joining the Department of Economics at the University of Cyprus in 2012, he was a senior research associate for IMPAQ International and held research positions at the U.S. Census Bureau’s Center of Economic Studies and the World Bank.

His research focuses on issues related to unemployment, evaluation of labor market policy, and wage differences. During his career, Dr. Michaelides has led multiple research and evaluation studies of reemployment assistance, workforce training, entrepreneurship training, and social insurance programs, including studies funded by U.S. Federal and state government agencies, the European Union, and non-goverment organizations.  His research record includes publications in academic journals and policy reports for the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Congress, and other government agencies.
