Profile

Panos Papanastasiou received his first degree in Civil Engineering from NTU of Athens in 1984 and his M.Sc in 1986 and Ph.D in 1990 in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He worked as Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist and Principal Research Scientist at Schlumberger Cambridge Research in U.K, from 1991 to 2002. He returned to Cyprus in 2002 as an Associate Professor and Interim Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus. In 2005 he was appointed as Head of the Department and in 2006 he was promoted to Professor. In 2008 was elected Dean of the Engineering School. He has published 39 refereed journal papers, 48 papers in refereed conference proceedings, 2 book chapters and has edited 3 books. He invented three U.K. and USA patents and wrote more than 40 industrial reports. He is editorial advisor in the International Journal of Geomechanics and he serves as reviewer for EPSRC (UK), ESF (Europe), RGC (Hong Kong) and for 16 International Journals. He has been involved in the organization of 7 conferences on Mechanics, Computational Mechanics and Geomechanics, for two of which he served as co-chairman.
