1975-1978: Assistant to the Director General of Antiquities at the Athens National Archaeological Museum, for the excavation and study of the Temple of Apollo at Bassae (Phigalia) in the Peloponnese.

1983-1995: Archaeological Officer in the Branch of Folk Culture of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities, with main duties:
- The evaluation and selection of traditional architecture buildings to be declared Ancient Monuments.
- The documentation of monuments of Folk Culture.
- The recording of restoration works on Ancient Monuments and their photographing for the purpose of compiling an archive for the Department, and
- The setting up of Folk Art Museums.

EXCAVATIONS:
1966-1969: Participated in several excavations in Thessaly, mainly at the Neolithic settlement of Sesklo and ancient Neleia.
1975-1978: Field Director of the excavations carried out at the Temple of Apollo at Bassae (Phigalia).
1979-1980: Participated in the excavations of the University of Edinburgh at the Chalcholithic settlement of Lemba-Lakkous in the Paphos District.
1990: Directed the excavations of Hellenistic and Roman tombs in Amathus, on behalf of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities.
2001: Directed the excavation of the watermill in the village of Pyrgos, Limassol District (Collaboration between the Department of Antiquities and the University of Cyprus).

REORGANIZATION AND SETTING UP OF MUSEUMS:
1984-1986: Setting up of the Rural Museum of Phikardou village.
1984-1990: Convertion into a Museum of the House of the Dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornessios, in Old Nicosia.
1986-1988: Setting up of the Lefkara Folk Art Museum of Embroidery and Silversmithing.
1986-1995: Completion of the reorganization and extension of the already existing Folk Art Museum at Yeroskipou, Paphos District.
1993-1995: As the Cyprus Correspondent in the European Network of Ethnographic and Social History Museums (Ethno Working Group, International Documentation Committee, International Council of Museums), E. Egoumenidou undertook the National Survey of the Ethno Data Standards currently used in the Ethnographic Museums of Cyprus (on behalf of the Director of the Department of Antiquities).

Folk Art and Architecture, Pre-industrial Technology, Material Life of the Recent Past, the Folk Culture of Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean area in general. Study of 18th/19th century ethnographic material through written sources.

RESEARCH:

1995-1996 and 2004-2005: "Traditional Pottery Workshops in Nicosia" (in collaboration with Eleni Lambrou), funded by the University of Cyprus. This research was part of a bigger project concerning the study of the traditional pottery of Cyprus. Vessels, tools and other relevant artefacts were recorded and photographed and drawings of representative samples were prepared with a view to form an Archive of Traditional Pottery in the Archaeological Research Unit. The documentation of the pottery workshops in Nicosia was completed (see List of Publications).

1996-1997: Participation in a Project within the framework of the Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Cyprus and Greece, on an "Interdisciplinary Study of Ancient Pyrotechnology in Cyprus. Part one: Study of Pottery Technology and Reproduction of Cypriot Vases and Figurines". The role of E. Egoumenidou was the study of the glazes of the Medieval pottery from Lapithos and the comparison of its technique with that of the Lapithos pottery from the recent past.

1997: Study of the collection of Cypriot traditional costumes in the National Historical Museum, Athens (in collaboration with Diana Gagadi and Olga Fakatseli), funded by the University of Cyprus and the National Historical Museum, Athens. The work was published in 1999 by the National Historical Museum, Athens, and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation (see List of Publications).

1997: Recording of customs related to the calendar cycle in Cyprus, as part of the Paneuropean recording of "Fêtes et rites calendaires", in her capacity of representative of Cyprus (Antenne Nationale) in P.A.C.T. EURETHNO of the Council of Europe. The research, on a specific topic, of the representative of each country, is presented in the annual meetings of P.A.C.T. EURETHNO.

1998: Recording of the collection of traditional silverware of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, and of the silverware in the A. Koudounaris Collection, Nicosia.

1998-2000: "Water power in the traditional energy producing systems of the Aegean, from Thrace to Cyprus". The programme started in October 1998 in collaboration with the Institute of Hellenic Mills and other institutions in Greece. It was funded by the European Union and was one of the ten "Thrace-Aegean-Cyprus" projects that were chosen out of the 96 which had been submitted to the Ministry of the Aegean and the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, Greece. E. Egoumenidou was responsible for the coordination and implementation of the programme in Cyprus. The results were presented at comparative exhibitions and meetings held in Nicosia, Athens, Samos and Alexandroupolis during 2000. The papers presented in the meetings were published in a volume in 2006 (see List of Publications).

1998-2000: "Preservation and Enhancement of Rural and Urban Architecture (PERA): Training". This was a placement/exchange programme which had been submitted to the European Programme "Leonardo da Vinci" and was approved in November 1998. It formed a collaboration of the University and the Technical Chamber of Cyprus with other Cypriot and foreign (Greek, Italian and Spanish) organizations. During the two-year programme, E. Egoumenidou presented the traditional architecture of Cyprus.

1999: Recording of rural customs in Cyprus and organization of the 13th Conference of P.A.C.T. EURETHNO, of the Council of Europe, on "Fêtes et rites agraires en Europe, rétrospective d´un siècle", A.G. Leventis Foundation, Nicosia 22-25 September 1999.

1999: Recording of the reliquaries and church treasures of the Monastery of Panagia Chrysorrogiatissa. E. Egoumenidou recorded 367 objects (embroideries, silver and woodcarved items, etc.) and wrote the captions and explanatory texts for many items which are exhibited in the new Museum of the Monastery.

1999-2001: Participation in the programme of restoration and presentation of the Poulkides Mansion in Siatista in Greece. The project was carried out with the collaboration of the Directorate of Byzantine and Postbyzantine Monuments of the Ministry of Culture, Greece, and the A. G. Leventis Foundation. E. Egoumenidou worked in Siatista for the preparation of the museological study (5-10 December 1999, 2-7 April 2001).

1999-2002: "Kilades, River Valleys Project, Life 99": A programme of recording the "living" cultural heritage in the regions of Ezousa, Xeros and Diarizos rivers, in Paphos District, undertaken by the "Laona Foundation for the Protection and Regeneration of the Cypriot Countryside". E. Egoumenidou was responsible for the folklore aspect of the project and recorded customs, traditions, traditional crafts, songs, etc.

1999-2004: Production of a documentary film on "Red clay traditional potters in Cyprus", in collaboration with the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation. The production was funded by the Laiki Group Cultural Centre. The film, of 87´ duration, was completed at the end of 2004. Collaborators: Maro Theodosiadou, Eleni Lambrou. E. Egoumenidou was responsible for the research involved in the production of the film. The film won the "Award of the best TV cultural production of the year 2004", presented by the Cyprus Radiotelevision Authority.

2000-2006: Recording and study of the Ethnographic Collection of the Pierides Foundation Museum in Larnaca. E. Egoumenidou was writer and editor of a monograph (288 pages) published by the Laiki Group Cultural Centre in 2006 (see List of Publications).
2000- : Transcription, commentary and analysis of the manuscript relating to the property of the Dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornessios, for publication (the work is in progress).

2001: Research on the corn grinding windmills in Cyprus (18th–20th c.) and preparation of two articles (see List of Publications).

2001-2003: Participation in the programme of documentation and presentation of the Turkish Baths (Hammam) in Paphos. Scientific Committee: Paphos Municipality, Department of Antiquities, Anna Marangou, Elli Constantinidou, E. Egoumenidou.

2001-2003: "Traditional Craftsmen and wood-related professions in the Aegean, Thrace and Cyprus". Two-year project "Thrace-Aegean-Cyprus". Collaborators: the Scientific and Educational Foundation of the Cyclades, the Institute of Cultural and Educational Technology, the National Hellenic Foundation and the University of Cyprus. E. Egoumenidou was responsible for the implementation of the programme in Cyprus, on behalf of the University.

2001-2007: Research for the preparation of a monograph on Tanning in Cyprus from the 16th to the 20th century. From traditional tanneries to modern industries. Introduction: Roy Thomson, Chief Executive, The Leather Conservation Centre, Northampton. It will be published by the Cyprus Research Centre in 2008.

2002: Scientific consultancy for the setting up of the Ethnographic Museum in Avgorou (Pierides Foundation).

2004: Research for the production of a documentary film on "The last maker of printed head scarves in Cyprus". Duration 45´. Scenery production: Paschalis Papapetrou. Scientific consultancy: E. 2004 - 2005: "Traditional Ovens and Kneaded Food in Thrace-Aegean-Cyprus". Two-year programme "Thrace-Aegean-Cyprus". Co-operators: Organizations, institutions and universities in Greece, and the University of Cyprus. Co-ordinator in Cyprus: The Pancyprian Organization for Architectural Heritage. Funding: Ministry of the Aegean, Greece. E. Egoumenidou collected material from many areas of the island and presented a paper on the traditional ovens of Cyprus (see List of Publications).

2004 - 2006: Study of the Cypriot Ethnographic Collection in the Benaki Museum in Athens, to be published by the Benaki Museum in 2007.

2004 - 2008: COST-Action A27: "Understanding pre-industrial structures in rural and mining landscapes". E. Egoumenidou is one of the two representatives of Cyprus in the management committee of Action G2, of the European programme COST, which records and studies ancient landscapes.

2005 - 2006: Research for the production of a documentary film on "The bread of the Cypriots". Duration 55´. Scenery production: Paschalis Papapetrou. Scientific consultancy: E. Egoumenidou. Production: Anadysis Films Ltd – 2006. The film won the first prize in the fourth festival of documentary films (Limassol 2006).

2005 - 2008: "Recording, study and publication of the corn-grinding watermills in Cyprus (18th-20th c.)". Three-year programme funded by the University of Cyprus, in collaboration with six architects, one geologist, the Director of the Museum of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos, Theodoros Papadopoullos (Cultural Foundation of Archbishop Makarios III), the Cyprus Department of Antiquities, and the Department of Information Technology, University of Cyprus (Coordinator: E. Egoumenidou).

2005 - : External Research Project "ALION": "Establishing a Historic and Ethnographic Archive of the Community of Idalion". E. Egoumenidou participates as a consultant for setting up an Ethnographic Museum in Idalion.

2006: "Di Terra in Terre, Laboratorio internationale: L´argilla dai fianchi larghi, terrecotte e cibi a confronto l´esperienza di Cipro". Project in collaboration with the Municipality of Fratte Rosa, Provincia de Pesaro e Urbino, Confcommercio Pesaro e Urbino, Italy, for the study and presentation of the traditional pottery of Cyprus and Fratte Rosa. Coordinator of the project in Cyprus: Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

2006: Project of collaboration with the State University of Humanities, Marioupolis, on "The Greeks of Azoph". Recording of customs and rites, traditions, songs etc. in 20 Greek villages in the region of Marioupolis, Ukraine (23.6 - 6.7.2006). Coordinator of the project: Professor Irene Ponomariova. E. Egoumenidou organized and prepared the participation in the project of nine students of the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Cyprus.

2006 - 2009: Study of a private collection (Aziz Damdelen) of traditional Turkish Cypriot costumes and relevant old photographs towards the preparation of a book on Turkish Cypriot Dress The Aziz Damdelen Collection, to be published by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

2006 - 2009: "Balnéorient. Balaneia, thermes et hammams. Origine et devenir du bain collectif dans le bassin oriental de la Mediterranée". International project, which started with the initiative of researchers from La Maison de l´Orient (www.balneorient.mom.fr). As a participant in the project, E. Egoumenidou is carrying out research on the hammams from the period of Ottoman rule in Cyprus.
2008 - 2011: "Virtual Museum of Cypriot Food and Nutrition". Project of the Research Promotion Foundation. Collaborators: PRIME TEL, Harokopeio University, Chrystalleni Lazarou (private researcher).

2011 - 2012: "The presence of Venetians in Ottoman Cyprus: aspects of material and social life". Project of the University of Cyprus (coordinator: Euphrosyne Rizopoulou-Egoumenidou) in collaboration with Regione del Veneto and Archivio di Stato di Venezia.
