I was born in Athens, Greece, in 1958. I graduated from high school in 1976 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Greek and French Studies from the University of Athens, Department of French Studies in 1982. I hold an MPhil (D.E.A.) in General and Applied Linguistics from the University Paris V - René Descartes (1983) and an MA (D.E.S.S.) from the University Paris VII - Denis Diderot (1994), where I successfully defended my Ph.D. dissertation titled Le parler gréco de Gallicianò (Italie): description d’une langue en voie de disparition in 1995 (Department of Theoretical and Formal Linguistics). During my studies, I worked at the Greek Embassy of France and at the basic research laboratory of the CNRS Laboratoire de Langues et Civilisations à Tradition Orale (LACITO). From 1996 to 2002, I worked for the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) in Athens, while collaborating with other research organizations and universities. I was a Board member of SILF (Société Internationale de Linguistique Fonctionnelle; 2006-07), vice-president (2006-08) and then president (2008-10) of EAFT (European Association for Terminology) and, since 2018, I am Board member of Infoterm (International Information Centre for Terminology). Since August 2002, I have been living in Cyprus and working at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Cyprus.
