What graduate degrees are currently offered?

The School of Engineering is currently offering PhD degrees in the fields of
1. Electrical Engineering
2. Computer Engineering
3. Civil Engineering
4. Environmental Engineering
5. Mechanical Engineering
6. Manufacturing Engineering
The MSc programs are expected to begin in the Fall of 2004.

What is the duration of studies for the graduate programs?

The usual duration of the MSc degree is 2 years and requires 30 credit units and for the PhD 4 years. The maximum duration allowed for a MSc degree is set by the University regulations and is currently 3 academic years for full time and 4 academic years for part time students. For the PhD the maximum duration is 7 academic years for full time and 8 academic years for part time students.

What are the admission procedures for the graduate program?

Eligible applicants must hold a university degree granted by an institution recognized in the country where it operates. Each application for admission must be submitted to the School of Engineering and should include:

  • A cover letter clearly stating the program the candidate wishes to apply.
  • A completed application form (in English or Greek).
  • A Curriculum Vitae indicating the students education, academic and research experiences, publications, awards etc.
  • A short statement (up to two pages maximum) stating the reason the candidate wishes to join the program, experiences, future goals etc.
  • Letters of recommendation (at least three) from academic or professional advisors
  • Copies of representative publications if any (no more than three.)
  • Copies of all degrees and transcripts. If applicable a letter from the Registrar verifying expected graduation date should be included (as described above).
  • Copies of any other supporting materials such as exams, honors, awards, etc.

The criteria for the evaluation of the candidates are the following:

  • Academic background
  • Research background
  • Recommendation letters
  • Additional qualifications

Familiarity with the English language is strongly recommended but not required.

What are the requirements of the graduate degrees?

The requirements for the completion of the MSc are:

    • Successful completion of 90 ECTS (equivalent to 30 credit units) at the postgraduate level.
    • Thesis Proposal.
    • Complete and original research.
    • Diploma Dissertation.
    • Defense of the Dissertation.

The requirements for the completion of the PhD are:

    • Successful completion of 30 credit units at the postgraduate level in accordance with the requirements of the Master degree. Holders of Master degrees or equivalent may be partially or fully exempted from this requirement.
    • Passing the Qualifying Examination.
    • Thesis Proposal.
    • Complete and original research.
    • Doctoral Dissertation.
    • Defense of the Dissertation.

What is the tuition for the graduate program?

The fees for the graduate program are as follows:
Masters Degree:
100 pounds per credit unit
PhD Degree:
Taught Stage: 100 pounds per credit unit (deferred if the student has a MSc)
Research Stage: 500 pounds per semester (minimum of 4 semesters)
Dissertation Stage: 100 pounds per semester
