The Department currently offers two degrees at the M.Sc. level,
one in Electrical Engineering and one in Computer Engineering and two degrees at
the M.Eng. level in Electrical Engineering and Computer engineering. Both
programs are based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System
(ECTS) and require the completion of at least 90 ECTS units, including
postgraduate level courses and research work.
The 90
ECTS units for the M.S. degrees are distributed as follows:
·
Postgraduate Courses (beyond the B.Sc. degree): 56 ECTS units
·
M.Sc. Thesis: 30 ECTS units
·
Postgraduate Seminars: 4 ECTS units
Students
must select all courses in consultation with their Academic Advisor/Research
Supervisor. 8 ECTS
units, out of the 56 ECTS units for courses, can be replaced by a directed
study course. It is also possible for a student to enroll in postgraduate
courses offered by another department from the University of Cyprus or any
other accredited University. ECTS units from such courses may be accepted as
part of the requirements of the M.Sc. degree. Units outside the Department should
be approved by the Postgraduate Studies Committee, and are not to exceed 18
ECTS units unless approved by the Department Council. For students who
completed postgraduate level courses in other postgraduate programs, at most 18
ECTS units from these courses can count towards the 56 ECTS units for
postgraduate coursework, after approval by the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
Each student must submit and successfully defend a M.Sc. thesis in a selected topic.
In addition to the coursework and the thesis, each student must attend at least
25 seminar presentations, during the time registered in the ECE postgraduate
program.
The 90
ECTS units for the M.Eng. degrees are distributed as follows:
·
Postgraduate Courses (beyond the B.Sc. degree): 80 ECTS units
·
Individual study course: 8 ECTS units
·
Postgraduate Seminars: 2 ECTS units
Students
must select all courses in consultation with their Academic Advisor/Research
Supervisor. Of the 80 ECTS coursework units, at least 48 ECTS units should
correspond to graduate courses offered by the Department. Of these 48 units, up
to 8 ECTS units can
be replaced by a directed study course. It is also possible for a student to
enroll in postgraduate courses offered by another department from the
University of Cyprus or any other accredited University. ECTS units from such
courses may be accepted as part of the requirements of the M.Eng. degree. Units
outside the Department should be approved by the Postgraduate Studies
Committee, and are not to exceed 18 ECTS units unless approved by the
Department Council. For students who completed postgraduate level courses in
other postgraduate programs, at most 18 ECTS units from these courses can count
towards the 80 ECTS units for postgraduate coursework, after approval by the
Postgraduate Studies Committee. Each student must successfully the individual
study course (ECE 723/724). In addition to the coursework and the individual
study course, each student must attend at least 12 seminar presentations,
during the time registered in the ECE postgraduate program.
Currently,
the ECE Department offers several areas of concentration, in both Electrical
Engineering and Computer Engineering, to M.Sc. students. As the Department
grows in size, the number of areas of concentration is also
expected to grow. The areas of concentration
in Electrical Engineering include:
·
Telecommunications Systems and Networks
·
Signal and Image Processing, Biomedical Engineering
·
Integrated Circuit Design, Nanotechnology
·
Electromagnetics, Microwaves, Antennas and Optics
·
Decision, Control and Automation Systems
·
Power and Renewable Energy Systems
The
areas of concentration in Computer Engineering include:
·
High Performance Computing and Architectures
·
Computer Networks
·
Digital Hardware Design and Test
·
Integrated Circuit Design
·
Computational Intelligence and Robotics
