What are the research activities of the University?

Large part of the research activities in the University contribute to what is called “pure” or “basic” science” and they cover a wide range of fields that correspond to existing specializations within the university’s departments.

Also many of the research activities and studies contribute to “applied” research, focusing on the understanding and solution of practical problems that we face in Cyprus and in the region. Through these programmes the University contributes directly to the improvement of the quality of life and to the sustainable economic growth of Cyprus and Europe.

How are the research programmes funded?
The University’s research programmes are funded either directly through the University’s budget, or by other competitive schemes announced by national (such as the Leventis Foundation, the Cyprus Research Foundation) and international institutions.

The research projects funded by European Union institutions comprise the majority of the funding. Main European funding programmes are: the Framework Programmes (DG Research) and the Life Long Learning Programmes (DG Education & Culture).

Does the University cooperate with any organisations?
The University of Cyprus is a member in a number of international university organizations and networks. It also cooperates, through inter-state and inter-university agreements, with universities and research centres in Europe and internationally, for the promotion of science, scholarly research and exchange of information.
