We are the heart of foreign language teaching and learning at the University of Cyprus. The Language Centre is responsible for planning and implementing foreign language training to complement all programs of study to meet compulsory language requirements and elective options at UCY. At present, the Language Centre offers courses in the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian and Turkish. Courses are taught by professionally trained language teaching specialists. The language training obtained through coursework follows The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the centre also offers over 14 courses for specific purposes in the English, French and German language sections.
The Language Centre is also very active in the use of instructional technology in foreign language teaching and has followed this area of specialization for a number of years. We strive to combine foreign language study with the development of computer literacy skills, which will give students the opportunity to engage in authentic and meaningful interaction in foreign language learning in and outside the classroom.
We also offer a fees-based Adult Education program to the Cypriot society and are currently teaching beginning Turkish and Russian language courses as well as English for Specific Purposes to students as well as professionals. We view our role in this program as a bridge to bring together higher education and the Cypriot society, promoting a multi-lingual as well as intercultural learning experience for all.
