- Academic Skill Development
Key Point
Use AI only when and how your course allows — always follow the instructions and clarify doubts to protect your academic integrity.
Examples
✅ Read the course syllabus carefully to understand what AI use is allowed and what is prohibited.
✅ Follow specific AI rules for each assignment or exam — they may differ.
✅ Ask your instructor if you’re unsure whether you can use an AI tool for a task.
✅ Use AI only as a study aid — not to do the work for you.
❌ Don’t ignore your course’s AI policy or the UCY AI Guidelines — being unaware or confused about the rules won’t protect you from misconduct issues.
❌ Don’t use AI to generate full answers or papers - it’s not allowed and counts as academic misconduct.
❌ Don’t assume AI tools are always allowed just because they’re available online.
❌ Don’t hide your AI use — always follow your course’s instructions on when and how to declare it, or ask your instructor if you’re unsure.
Excerpt from the Official Guidelines
As part of their academic training, students must further develop and apply their skills in generating ideas and arguments, conducting research and analysis, designing and executing projects, applying critical thinking, writing and revising work, synthesizing information, and citing sources properly. This list is not exhaustive but reflects a broader effort to ensure that students gain the most from their academic training. In all, the use of AI must enhance but not substitute fundamental academic processes.
