The University of Cyprus announces the acceptance of a new donation from the “Evie Sofianou Foundation” of €120,000 in memory of the late Evie Sofianou.

Rector, Professor Tasos Christofides: “The University of Cyprus expresses its sincere thanks and deep gratitude to the “Evie Sofianou” Foundation for this new generous contribution, and especially to the Sofianou Family, whose name is now intertwined with the course of the University of Cyprus and of course the care of its students. This is a valuable contribution, which highlights their sensitivity to education and their general contribution to the society of the country, while honouring, in the best possible way, the memory of Evie Sofianou. The University, in recognition of the contribution of the Family and the Foundation, has named a hall on the University campus “Evie Sofianou”.

Donor, Mrs. Cleopatra Sofianou: “I would like to express the appreciation of the Sofianou Family and the Foundation for the work and progress of the University of Cyprus, as well as their full satisfaction for providing support to the PhD students and for using the Foundation’s contribution in the best possible way, something that Evie herself would have wished for.”

Founding member of the Foundation, Vassos Olympios: “The Foundation has chosen to make this significant donation to the University of Cyprus, the largest public university in Cyprus, which enjoys the highest recognition and trust from Cypriot society. In its 30 years of operation, he noted, the University of Cyprus has entered every Cypriot family, thus contributing substantially to the social, scientific, intellectual, cultural and economic development of the country.”
