DR. LIDA IOANNOU-TTOFA
Sanitary Engineer, Water Development Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development & Environment | Graduate of the Postgraduate and Doctoral Programmes
I am a graduate of the Postgraduate and Doctoral Programmes in Environmental Engineering of the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus and a former postdoctoral researcher of the International Water Research Center NIREAS. During my postgraduate studies and my work as a Special Scientist (Research) I had the opportunity not only to attend courses and lectures by renowned professors but also to collaborate with distinguished scientists and professionals from the academic and non-academic sectors from various countries, within the framework of joint European research programmes. The experiences and skills I gained during my 12 years at the University of Cyprus, include, among others, the supervision of progress, planning, organization, coordination and execution of research activities and projects, as I have participated in over 10 european and national research projects, writing a variety of research proposals, taking initiatives, working under pressure as a team member, good time management and the ability to meet strict deadlines that have helped me to be able to cope and adapt to the ever-evolving work environment. The constant encouragement of my collaborators to take responsibility and find ways to solve complex and multi-dimensional problems that needed good critical thinking, played a critical role in shaping my character and the professional Engineer who I am today.

DR. EFTYCHIA MAVRONIKOLA
Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works | Graduate of the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral Programmes
My studies at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus are a special chapter of my life. I have had the pleasure of experiencing the academic journey offered by the Department from the first year it accepted undergraduate students in 2003 and I feel particularly proud and satisfied with the efforts made and are being made by its academics to achieve high academic performance in both research and teaching. Through the demanding undergraduate programme of the Department I had the opportunity to enrich my basic knowledge in civil and environmental engineering, but also to develop skills that helped me in continuing my studies, as well in my professional career. Then, in the context of attending the postgraduate programmes of the Department, I had the pleasure to work with excellent professors/mentors and colleagues who leave their mark on science, as they did left it in my life. I benefited from the high level of education and research of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to deepen my understanding in earthquake and computational engineering. At the same time, I had the opportunity to participate in a number of research projects, to attend and present my research results at international conferences, to develop further my research and analytical skills related to Civil Engineering, as well as my professional and communication skills related with the Engineering profession, which accompany me in my professional career.

LOUCAS KYRIAKOU
PhD Candidate | Graduate of the Postgraduate Programme
The University of Cyprus is the institution I chose to continue my studies following my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at European universities in Greece and Spain. The Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Cyprus has provided me with a solid background, both theoretical and practical, in all the fundamental fields of materials science. As part of my studies, theory is transformed into practice and it becomes possible to design and produce new and improved materials in specialized laboratories with the latest technology equipment. The scientific background of the academics of the Department, as well as open communication with supervisors and associates, is reflected in the quality of research produced by publishing articles in prestigious scientific journals and is a guarantee of a successful academic career.

LOUCAS CHARALAMBOUS
Quantitative Analyst at Mercuria Energy Trading | Graduate of the Undergraduate Programme
My undergraduate studies at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus were the starting point for my professional career. The skills I acquired and especially the cultivation of critical thinking helped me succeed even in a different field like Quantitative Analysis. Although my degree was quite different from other postgraduate students at the EPFL University in Switzerland, the mathematical background and learning ability I gained in my undergraduate studies helped me to cope fully. For the last two and a half years I have been working between Switzerland and England as a Quantitative Analyst in one of the three largest companies in the world in the field of energy trading, where with mathematical models we try to predict the movement of prices in the market. I would also like to emphasize that the good work done in the Department and especially the research work of its academics are recognized abroad. During the process of finding a postgraduate programme, I noticed with great satisfaction that I was admitted to one of the best universities in the world. I will always be grateful to the academics of the department for their valuable help and the knowledge I gained during my studies.

KATERINA ZOGRAPHOU
Structural Engineer, Advanced Technology + Research, Advanced Digital Engineering, ARUP | Graduate of the Undergraduate Programme
My undergraduate degree at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus helped me to establish the fundamental principles of engineering and to continue my postgraduate studies at Imperial College London. For the last five years I have been working as a structural engineer in the Advanced Technology and Research team of ARUP in London. My specialisation concerns the evaluation and intensity of existing buildings in various countries with high seismic risk.
The Programme of Studies at the University of Cyprus gave me the necessary supplies to be able to evolve in a modern world with developing new technologies and the challenges of sustainable development. The solid foundations of my undergraduate years have been the constant guide in my career. At the same time, the Department its academics were always available and willing to advise me, both during my studies and after their completion. I am very grateful to them for this support.
