The event is organised by the University of Cyprus, Larnaca Municipality, and the Proodeftiki Kinisi of Larnaca and will be held at Stegi Grammaton & Technon in Larnaca. All are welcome.<\/div>\n
This lecture presents in lay language some of the results of the research project “Storyworlds in Collections: Toward a Theory of the Ancient and Byzantine Tale (2nd Century CE – 7th Century CE)” (Restart 2016-2020 Programme POST-DOC\/0718\/0021), which is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research and Innovation Foundation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
After a brief presentation of this project, the main avenues for investigating the short narratives cultivated in Byzantium from the 4th to the 7th century AD will be discussed. Subsequently, through the parallel reading of short Byzantine stories and the application of their main narrative practices to two areas of contemporary life, public discourse and personal perception, an attempt will be made to demonstrate the significance of such stories as contemporary readings. Some of the main questions that the presenters will attempt to answer during the lecture are the following: how could the contemporary listener benefit from Byzantine literature? What are the techniques that structure contemporary narratives? How could these be used in different areas of our lives?<\/div>\n
