June 24, 2022HOT PAPER BY THE SUPRAMOLECULAR AND FULLERENE CHEMISTRY RESEARCH GROUP
A Hot Paper was published by the research group of Associate Professor Nikos Chronakis at the Chemistry Department of the University of Cyprus.
The Editor of Chemistry - A European Journal selected this full paper as a hot paper due to its great significance in the area of regioselective functionalization of azafullerene C59N that Dr Chronakis group has been developing the last years, targeting new electron acceptors based on C59N. The entire synthetic work of the paper was accomplished by Mr Karam Asad, a very talented PhD student, member of the "Supramolecular and Fullerene Chemistry Research Group"
Heterofullerene tailoring: The inherently chiral trans-4′ bisadduct of azafullerene has been synthesized. X-ray crystallography validated the trans-4′ addition pattern, and 13C NMR spectroscopy showed C1 symmetry. The bisadduct was enantiomerically resolved, and the mirror-image relation of the enantiomers was probed by CD spectroscopy. The UV-Vis absorption and electrochemical data suggest that the addition pattern has a reflection in the light-harvesting and redox properties of the bisadduct as compared to the equatorialface bisadduct.

Dear Professor Chronakis,
Congratulations!
According to the evaluation of referees the results reported in your article are of great significance. Less than 20% of our manuscripts receive such a positive review. We recommend that you tell the publicity/press department of your institute about your publication and the excellent reviews that it has received; a press release could be possible. Furthermore, you are welcome to submit graphical material suitable for display on the outside or inside covers of Chemistry-A European Journal. Manuscripts that have received such positive recommendations are favored in our selection process.
Kind regards,
Dr. Haymo Ross
