The Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus (CI at UCY), as from September 2019 has become an official Test Centre in Cyprus for the Chinese Proficiency Tests.

The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi), is an international standardized Chinese language test, organised by Hanban, to measure the ability of non-native Chinese speakers to communicate in Chinese in their daily lives, as well as in academic and working settings.

The HSK Test is divided into two independent parts: the written tests and the oral tests can be taken separately.
The written tests include HSK Level 1, HSK Level 2, HSK Level 3, HSK Level 4, HSK Level 5 and HSK Level 6. The oral tests include HSKK (basic), HSKK (intermediate) and HSKK (advanced). All oral tests are recorded.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus offers Chinese Language Courses (levels: HSK 1, HSK 2, HSK 3.2, HSK 4.2, HSK 5), as well as private courses (HSK Preparatory Courses) during Spring Semester 2021-2022.

Registration period: 01/01/2022 – 16/01/2022.
The courses will start on Monday, 17/01/2022.
For the first four weeks of teaching, courses will be conducted online, due to the increased transmissibility of the Omicron variant.

  • Level 1: for participants with little or no previous knowledge

Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level I) can understand and use very simple Chinese words and phrases, meet basic needs for communication and possess the ability to further their Chinese language studies.

  • Level 2: for participants with some previous knowledge
    Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level II) have an excellent grasp of basic Chinese and can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • Level 3: for participants with good knowledge
    Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level III) can communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily, academic and professional lives. They can manage most communication in Chinese when travelling in China.
  • Level 4: for participants with very good knowledge
    Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level IV) can converse in Chinese on a wide range of topics and are able to communicate fluently with native Chinese speakers.

The course programme is divided into four levels. Course titles and assignments conform to the Common Framework of Reference Levels:
