Along with teaching, research is an activity of utmost importance for the Department of Classics and Philosophy. It is conducted at the most demanding level, and is published in international journals and by leading publishers.
Our research concerns the areas of classics, historical linguistics and philosophy. The specific fields that are cultivated in the Department are presented here, while some of our research programmes can be seen here.
With regard to academic publications, this section presents some of the books by members of the academic staff, while for other forms of academic publications, such as articles in academic journals and chapters in collective volumes, information can be found on the personal webpage of each member of the academic staff.
Additionally, postdoctoral researchers are an integral part of the research team of the Department. The University of Cyprus and other research organisations, such as the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation, offer competitive funding to aspiring researchers. The Department has hosted many postdoctoral researchers, and is happy to consider further collaborations in subjects of mutual interest.
Finally, it should be noted that, besides international conferences and academic workshops, the Department runs two series of academic lectures every semester: the ‘Classics Colloquium’ and the ‘Demonax Philosophical Lectures’ —both series welcoming distinguished speakers from various universities.
