Ο Δρ Nίκος Μιτσίδης εργάζεται ως Επισκέπτης Ακαδημαϊκός Ιατρός στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου με ειδίκευση στη Νεφρολογία και Γενική Παθολογία και εξασκεί κλινικά καθήκοντα ειδικού Νεφρολόγου στο Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Λευκωσίας. Γεννήθηκε το 1977 στη Λευκωσία και είναι απόφοιτος της Αγγλικής Σχολής. Έλαβε πτυχίο ιατρικής από το πανεπιστήμιο του Manchester το 2004 και εξάσκησε ιατρική στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο για 17 χρόνια. Υπήρξε κάτοχος του NIHR Devices for Dignity Nephrology Innovation Research Fellowship και το 2019 του απονεμήθηκε Διδακτορικό πτυχίο (PhD) από το University of Manchester για το ερευνητικό του έργο με αντικείμενο την κατακράτηση νατρίου και υγρών στα προχωρημένα στάδια της χρόνιας νεφρικής νόσου και σε ασθενείς που λαμβάνουν αιμοκάθαρση. Έχει παρουσίαση τη δουλεία του σε διαφορά αναγνωρισμένα διεθνή συνέδρια και έχει δημοσίευση άρθρα και κεφάλαια βιβλίων στους τομείς του κλινικού και ακαδημαϊκού του ενδιαφέροντος. Είναι μέλος του Βασιλικού Κολλεγίου Ιατρών (Royal College of Physicians) του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου και κατέχει το Speciality Certificate Examination στη Νεφρολογία από το 2012. Έχει εξασφαλίσει το Certificate of Completion of Training (τίτλος ειδικότητας) για τις ειδικότητες της Νεφρολογίας και Γενικής Παθολογίας από το Βασιλικό Κολλέγιο Ιατρών το 2018 και εργάστηκε σαν Ειδικός Νεφρολόγος (Consultant), καταρχάς στο Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust και έπειτα στο University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου.
 
Ο Δρ Μιτσίδης έχει επίσης ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον στο σχεδιασμό και την παράδοση πτυχιακής και μεταπτυχιακής κλινικής εκπαίδευσης. Απέκτησε με διάκριση μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα στη κλινική εκπαίδευση (Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education) από το Edge Hill University το 2018 και αποτέλεσε μέντορας του Βασιλικού Κολλεγίου Ιατρών Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου σε ειδικευομένους ιατρούς. Επίσης από τον Αύγουστο του 2021 διατελεί καθήκοντα συντονιστή του εκπαιδευτικού προγράμματος εξειδίκευσης ιατρών στην Νεφρολογία για την Επαρχία Λευκωσίας. Προσδοκεί στη συνεχή προσφορά του στη δημιουργία και ανάπτυξη κλινικών εκπαιδευτικών προγραμμάτων, χαρτοφυλακίων και αξιολογήσεων στο χώρο εργασίας με σκοπό την ανάπτυξη των νεών γενεών ιατρών, νοσηλευτών και άλλον λειτουργών υγείας.

Profile Information

Dr Nicos Mitsides is currently a Visiting Academic Physician in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and a practising Nephrologist at the Nicosia General Hospital. He was born in Nicosia in 1977 and graduated from The English School of Nicosia in 1996. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Manchester in 2004 and has practice medicine in the United Kingdom for 17 years. He has held the NIHR Devices for Dignity Nephrology Innovation Research Fellowship and was awarded a PhD by the University of Manchester for his research work in salt and fluid overload in advanced Chronic Kidney Disease and haemodialysis in 2019. Ηe has presented his work at a number of recognised international conferences and has published articles and book chapters in his area of clinical and academic interest. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of UK and has completed his Speciality Certificate Examination in Nephrology in 2012. He was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training for the specialities of Nephrology and General Internal Medicine by the Royal College in 2018 and has worked as a Consultant Nephrologist first at Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and then at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
 
Dr Mitsides has also a keen interest in the design and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and supervision. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education awarded with Distinction by Edge Hill University in 2018 and has been a mentor for postgraduate medical trainees for the Royal College of Physicians. He is currently the postgraduate speciality training program cocrdinator for nephrology in the district of Nicosia. He aspires to continue to contribute to the development of clinical education curricula, portfolios and workplace assessments and to facilitate the nurturing of future doctors, nurses and associate health specialist at various stages of their career.

Dr Mitsides academic and research interests lie within the field of clinical Nephrology and in particular the areas of haemodialysis and chronic kidney disease including:

• uraemic toxin clearance in haemodialysis, expanded haemodialysis and hemodiafiltration
• the management of the cardiovascular risk associated with dialytic modalities
• home haemodialysis and the study of the clinical, psychological and socioeconomic impact of implementation of this modality
