 Venetia Papa is an Assistant Professor in Journalism and Digital Media at the University of Cyprus. She has received her Ph.D.  in Communication and Internet Studies from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and the University of Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis and her MA and BA from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in France.  Since 2020, is the coordinator of the research lab DAT-ACT at the University of Cyprus working on the emerging big data ecology through innovative and advanced methodological tools. From 2010 to 2018 she was employed at the Cyprus University of Technology as a Research Associate in several local and European research programs. She has published several scientific articles in well-know referred journals in the field of Media and Communication studies such as the European Journal of Communication and the Information, Communication and Society. She is the co-authored of the book Mobilisations numeriques: Politiques du conflit et technologies mediatiques (Les Presses des Mines, 2017).
Her current research interests lie in the fields of new and alternative media, internet politics, media literacy, online communities, and social movements.
