Dr. Alexandros Syrakos obtained his MEng (Master of Engineering) degree from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Leeds, U.K, in 1999. In 2006 he obtained his Ph.D. thesis from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; his thesis concerned the development of performance-enhancing techniques, such as adaptive mesh refinement and multigrid, for the simulation of fluid flows via the Finite Volume Method. During 2007-2011 he was employed as a postdoctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Environmental Technology of the University of Western Macedonia, directed by Prof. John Bartzis, where he worked on numerical weather and air pollution prediction. During the same time, he also taught undergraduate courses (Mathematics, and Fortran programming) as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the same university. In 2012 he moved to Cyprus where he was hired as a postdoctoral researcher by the Oceanography Centre of the University of Cyprus to work on the development of their ocean forecasting model, CYCOFOS. He also worked on research projects supervised by Prof. Georgios Georgiou of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus concerning the numerical simulation of viscoplastic and thixotropic flows (in collaboration also with Prof. Andreas Alexandrou). During 2014-2019 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics and Rheology of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras, directed by Prof. John Tsamopoulos. There he worked on the numerical simulation of viscoplastic, viscoelastic and elastoviscoplastic flows via Finite Volume and Finite Element methods. Since 2020 he is a Lecturer at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Cyprus.
