Undergraduate studies in Archaeology at the Department of Arts History and Archaeology, Università degli Studi di Firenze (IT). Postgraduate studies at the same institution (MA) and MSc in Geotechnologies for Archaeology at Università degli Studi di Siena (IT). Doctoral studies in Landscape Archaeology at the University of Glasgow (UK), with a thesis titled ‘Landscape Strategies in Bronze Age Southwestern Cyprus (2500-1100 B.C.)’.

In the last three years I was Contract Lecturer at Università di RomaTre (IT) and Università di Chieti-Pescara (IT), where I was teaching Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing and Near Eastern Archaeology. Previously, from 2009 to 2012, I was a Research Fellow at the Department of Chemistry at Università degli Studi di Torino (IT) and in 2021 a Postdoctoral Fellow for the ‘PICASP project’ at Università di Chieti-Pescara (IT).

I am currently Special Scientist at the Metal Places Research Project (INTERREG V-A "Greece-Cyprus" 2014-2020), where I am in charge of developing the GIS/DBMS infrastructure.

I have participated in numerous archaeological fieldwork programmes (surveys and excavations) in Italy, Cyprus and Iraq, where I took the supervision of data management, archaeological excavation and landscape studies through GIS and associated methodologies of spatiotemporal analysis.
My main interest lies in the interaction among human and natural communities in conjunction with the increase in social complexity and under the pressure of climate change, particularly across the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East. How human societies manipulated their own landscapes, leaving tangible and intangible imprints of their action; and, conversely, how landscapes shaped human perception and action throughout time. In particular, my interest lies in reconciling and co-analysing different proxy datasets, including survey data, archaeobotanical and zooarchaeological data, and climate proxies.

To do this, I engage with problems associated with legacy data including data reuse in our contemporary digital world. My main area of interest is combining different techniques inferred from archaeological data to explore ancient archaeodemographic patterns, and integrating them with GIS-based analysis for understanding the ways in which environment and human communities are interconnected, co-dependent and profoundly entangled.

Participation in research and field programmes:

2019-today: External collaborator (data management) for the research project at the Aceramic Neolithic site of Pyrgos Ayia Marina (Limassol District, CY). Project directed by Università di Chieti-Pescara (IT).

2017-today: Trench supervisor and GIS specialist at the ‘Sirwan Regional Project’ (Kurdish Region of Iraq). Project directed by University of Glasgow (UK), in collaboration with Darmouth College (US, 2014-2020).

2017-2021: Chief surveyor and GIS manager at the ‘Moni-Pyrgos-Monagroulli Survey Project’ (Limassol District, CY). Project directed by Università di Chieti-Pescara (IT).

2012: Co-director of the short-term rescue survey project in Lophou (Limassol Ditrict, CY). In collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Limassol.

2008–2014: Trench supervisor at the Italian Expedition in Erimi Laonin tou Porakou (Limassol District, CY). Project directed by Università degli Studi di Firenze (IT) and Università degli Studi di Torino (IT).

2007-2009: Surveyor at the ‘Kouris Valley Project’ (Limassol District, CY). Project directed by Università degli Studi di Firenze (IT).

2002-2006: Archaeologist at the ‘Missione Archeological a Kaulon’ (Reggio Calabria, IT). Project directed by Università degli Studi di Firenze (IT).
