     Ο Δρ. Νικόλαος Γούβας είναι γενικός χειρουργός με εξειδίκευση στις παθήσεις του παχέος εντέρου & ορθού και επίκουρος καθηγητής χειρουργικής της ιατρικής σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Αποφοίτησε από την Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης. Ολοκλήρωσε την ειδίκευσή του σε μια ογκολογική χειρουργική κλινική στην Αθήνα με ξεχωριστές μονάδες ήπατος-χοηφόρων-παγκρέατος και παχέος εντέρου-ορθού. Στη συνέχεια, μετέβηκε στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και συγκεκριμένα στο κέντρο που είναι τρίτο σε όλη τη χώρα για τον αριθμό των χειρουργείων στις παθήσεις του παχέος εντέρου & ορθού στο Worcester (Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) όπου και εξειδικεύτηκε για τέσσερα χρόνια στη λαπαροσκοπική χειρουργική του παχέος εντέρου και ορθού. Το ειδικό του ενδιαφέρον ήταν πάντα η χειρουργική του παχέος εντέρου & ορθού. Εμπλέκεται και διοργανώνει πολλές εκπαιδευτικές δραστηριότητες πάνω στη χειρουργική του παχέος εντέρου & ορθού. Αποτελεί επίσης μέλος μιας πολυπληθούς ομάδας Ελλήνων και Κυπρίων γιατρών πολλών διαφορετικών ειδικοτήτων, η οποία πρόσφατα ολοκλήρωσε τη διαμόρφωση εθνικών κατευθυντήριων οδηγιών για την αντιμετώπιση του καρκίνου του παχέος εντέρου & ορθού. Είναι, επίσης, πολύ ενεργός στο ερευνητικό πεδίο ως ο κύριος ερευνητής δύο διεθνών πολυκεντρικών τυχαιοποιημένων μελετών και ως ο συντονιστής της πιλοτικής βάσης καταγραφής του καρκίνου του παχέος εντέρου & ορθού στην Ελλάδα υπό την εποπτεία της Εταιρείας Μελέτης του Καρκίνου του Πεπτικού Συστήματος (www.emkapes.gr). Έχει δημοσιεύσει την έρευνά του σε περιοδικά υψηλού επιστημονικού κύρους.

    Profile Information

     Dr. Nikolaos Gouvas is a general surgeon with specialization in the diseases of the colon and rectum and an assistant professor of surgery of the medical school of the University of Cyprus. He graduated the medical school of the University of Crete. He concluded his training in a very busy oncologic center in Athens with dedicated HPB and Colorectal units. He then sub-specialised in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery in the third busiest center in the UK for colorectal diseases in Worcester UK for four years (Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust). His special interest has always been colorectal surgery. He is involved and organizing a lot of educational activities on colorectal surgery and diseases in general. He is also a member of an international multi-disciplinary team of Greek & Cypriot doctors that recently completed the difficult task of setting the first Greek-Cypriot National Guidelines on the management of Colorectal Cancer. He is also quite active in the research field as well as he is one of the lead investigators for two multicenter randomized controlled trials in Greece and he is also the co-ordinator of a pilot multicenter registry of colorectal cancer in Greece under the co-ordination of the Greek GastroIntestinal Cancer Study Group (www.emkapes.gr). He has published his research in high-impact scientific journals.
