Ο Δρ. Αλέξανδρος Λόρδος είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Κατέχει πτυχίο Σύγχρονων και Μεσαιωνικών Γλωσσών από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Cambridge, πτυχίο Ψυχολογίας από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης, μεταπτυχιακό στη Συμβουλευτική από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Durham, και διδακτορικό στην Κλινική Ψυχολογία από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Ο Δρ. Λόρδος είναι εκ των ιδρυτών, και ο τέως Διευθυντής Έρευνας, του Κέντρου Βιώσιμης Ειρήνης και Δημοκρατικής Ανάπτυξης (SeeD) δια του οποίου έχει εγκαινιάσει συνεργασίες με διάφορους διεθνείς οργανισμούς, όπως UNICEF, World Bank, Interpeace, UNDP, και το Office for Transition Initiatives της USAID. Διετέλεσε συντονιστής προγραμμάτων σε χώρες της Ευρώπης, της Αφρικής και της Ασίας, συγκεκριμένα σε Ουκρανία, Νότιο Σουδάν, Ρουάντα, Αιθιοπία, Λιβύη, Μολδαβία, Βοσνία-Ερζεγοβίνη, Λιβερία, Ιράκ, Αφγανιστάν, Νεπάλ, Μαλαισία, Ανατολικό Τιμόρ και Κύπρο. Υπήρξε επισκέπτης επιστήμονας στη Σχολή Δημόσιας Υγείας του Πανεπιστημίου Harvard, ενώ υπηρετεί ως ανώτερος εμπειρογνώμονας του διεθνούς οργανισμού Interpeace για θέματα ψυχικής υγείας και οικοδόμησης ειρήνης. Διετέλεσε στο παρελθόν σύμβουλος του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας, για θέματα που άπτονται της ειρηνευτικής διαδικασίας. Έχει διατελέσει κριτής σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς της UNICEF για την ενδυνάμωση νέων. Συμμετείχε και έχει βραβευθεί σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς για σχεδιασμό βιώσιμων κοινοτήτων στο πλαίσιο πολυμελών και μακρόχρονων διαστημικών αποστολών. Επιπλέον, ο Δρ. Λόρδος υπηρετεί ή έχει υπηρετήσει σε εθνικές επιτροπές για ποικίλα σχετικά θέματα, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της προώθησης της ψυχικής υγείας στα σχολεία μετά την πανδημία Covid-19, την διαπραγμάτευση για την ένταξη Κλινικών Ψυχολόγων στο Γενικό Σύστημα Υγείας, και την διαμόρφωση Εθνικής Στρατηγικής για την Πρόληψη της Αυτοκτονίας.  Στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, διευθύνει την ερευνητική του μονάδα, το «Εργαστήριο Δεξιοτήτων και Ανθεκτικότητας», ενώ ταυτόχρονα συμβάλλει στη διδασκαλία και εποπτεία προπτυχιακών, μεταπτυχιακών και διδακτορικών φοιτητών στο Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας. Είναι μέλος του Συμβουλίου της Σχολής Κοινωνικών Επιστημών και Επιστημών Αγωγής.
Ενδιαφέρομαι για τη διερεύνηση και ενεργοποίηση διαδικασιών που συμβάλλουν στην πολυσυστημική ανθεκτικότητα, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση σε πληθυσμούς που έχουν πληγεί από πολέμους ή άλλες βίαιες συγκρούσεις, καθώς και σε κοινότητες που βρίσκονται σε απομονωμένα, περιοριστικά και ακραία περιβάλλοντα. Οι παράγοντες ανθεκτικότητας σε τέτοια πλαίσια ενδέχεται να περιλαμβάνουν τις κοινωνικοσυναισθηματικές δεξιότητες, την οικογενειακή συνοχή, τη συνεργατική ανάπτυξη της κοινότητας, τις επαγγελματικές δεξιότητες, την πρόσβαση σε φυσικά και κτιστά αγαθά, και τη μετασχηματιστική ηγεσία της κοινότητας. Οι έρευνές μου εξετάζουν - μέσω πολυεπίπεδων και διεπιστημονικών μελετών πληθυσμού - πώς αυτοί οι παράγοντες αλληλεπιδρούν ώστε να συμβάλλουν στην πολυσυστημική προσαρμογή, με θετικά αποτελέσματα στις διαστάσεις ψυχικής υγείας, κοινωνικής συνοχής και βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης.

Με βάση τα ευρήματα από τέτοιες πληθυσμιακές μελέτες, τείνω πλέον να ασχολούμαι με τη διαμόρφωση εθνικών υποδομών για την καλλιέργεια της πολυσυστημικής ανθεκτικότητας σε πληθυσμούς που έχουν πληγεί από συγκρούσεις, ή που βρίσκονται σε απομονωμένα, περιοριστικά και ακραία περιβάλλοντα. Οι υποδομές αυτές εδράζονται σε πρωτόκολλα κοινοτικών παρεμβάσεων για την αντιμετώπιση ατομικών και κοινωνικών προβλεπτικών παραγόντων ψυχοκοινωνικής δυσφορίας, οικογενειακών συγκρούσεων και κοινοτικών ταραχών. Συγκεκριμένα εργαλεία που έχουν αναπτυχθεί προς αυτό τον σκοπό περιλαμβάνουν ένα πρωτόκολλο για την οικοδόμηση κοινωνικοσυναισθηματικών δεξιοτήτων και ανθεκτικότητας για πληθυσμούς που βιώνουν μετατραυματικό στρες έπειτα από μαζική βία, ένα πρωτόκολλο για θεραπεία πολλαπλών οικογενειών που στοχεύει στην αντιμετώπιση της διαγενεακής μετάδοσης τραύματος ή εγκληματικότητας, και ένα πρωτόκολλο για την ανάπτυξη κοινοτικών επιχειρήσεων που αποσκοπεί στην εδραίωση της ψυχικής υγείας και κοινωνικής συνοχής μέσω βιώσιμων στρατηγικών βιοπορισμού. Επιπλέον, μαζί με συνεργάτες έχουμε διαμορφώσει πλαίσια βέλτιστων πρακτικών για πολυσυστημική ανθεκτικότητα και κοινωνική συνοχή πολυμελών και μακρόχρονων διαστημικών αποστολών. Η αξιολόγηση της αποτελεσματικότητας αυτών των παρεμβάσεων - μέσω τυχαιοποιημένων δοκιμών, αναλογικών μελετών, αξιολόγησης διαδικασιών και σταχυολόγησης αποτελεσμάτων - είναι μια σημαντική πτυχή της τρέχουσας εργασίας μου.
 
Πιο πρόσφατα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα μου, που σκοπεύω να αναπτύξω περαιτέρω στα επόμενα χρόνια, περιλαμβάνουν τη χρήση προσωποκεντρικής μοντελοποίησης (agent-based modelling) για την προσομοίωση της κοινοτικής ανθεκτικότητας, την χρήση μεθόδων οικολογικής-στιγμιαίας αξιολόγησης (ecological-momentary assessment) για την διερεύνηση της διαγενεακής μετάδοσης τραύματος ή ανθεκτικότητας εντός των οικογενειών, και την ανάπτυξη συνεκτικών και ανθεκτικών κοινοτήτων στο πλαίσιο απομονωμένων, περιοριστικών και ακραίων (I.C.E.) περιβαλλόντων, με ειδική αναφορά σε πολυμελείς και μακρόχρονες διαστημικές αποστολές.
