Η Δρ. Αλίνα Τρυφωνίδου εντάχθηκε στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2023 ως Επίκουρη Καθηγήτρια Δικαίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και Οικογενειακού Δικαίου. Προηγουμένως, κατείχε ακαδημαϊκές θέσεις στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο στα Πανεπιστήμια Leicester (Λέκτορας, 2007–2011) και Reading (Λέκτορας, 2011–2012· Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια Δικαίου της ΕΕ, 2013–2018· Καθηγήτρια Νομικής, 2018–2021), καθώς και στην Κύπρο στο Neapolis University Pafos (Καθηγήτρια Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαίου, 2021–2023). Είναι επίσης Επισκέπτρια Καθηγήτρια στη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Reading, Associate of King’s College (AKC) και Fellow της Higher Education Academy του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου (νυν Advance HE) (FHEA).

Η Δρ. Τρυφωνίδου απέκτησε πτυχίο LLB (2001), μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο LLM (2002) και διδακτορικό τίτλο (PhD) (2008) από το King’s College London. Το 2003 ολοκλήρωσε επιτυχώς τις εξετάσεις του Δικηγορικού Συλλόγου Κύπρου και πραγματοποίησε άσκηση σε δικηγορικό γραφείο στην Κύπρο, ενώ το 2004 συμμετείχε στο πρόγραμμα πρακτικής άσκησης Blue Book της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής (Γενική Διεύθυνση Εσωτερικής Αγοράς και Υπηρεσιών, νυν DG GROW) στις Βρυξέλλες. Έχει διατελέσει επισκέπτρια ακαδημαϊκός στο King’s College London, στο Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) του Πανεπιστημίου του Λονδίνου, και στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Bergamo. Το 2024 ανέλαβε καθήκοντα συν-συντονίστριας της Ομάδας Εργασίας για ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ ζητήματα του Berkeley Center on Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law (BCCE), ενώ είναι επίσης μέλος της ακαδημαϊκής ομάδας που συμβάλλει στην προετοιμασία της πρώτης Εθνικής Στρατηγικής για τα Δικαιώματα των ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ ατόμων στην Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, η οποία αναμένεται να δημοσιευθεί το 2026.

Το ερευνητικό έργο της Δρ. Τρυφωνίδου εντοπίζεται στο σημείο τομής του δικαίου της ελεύθερης κυκλοφορίας της ΕΕ, του οικογενειακού δικαίου και της προστασίας των δικαιωμάτων των ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ ατόμων. Είναι συχνά προσκεκλημένη ομιλήτρια σε διεθνή ακαδημαϊκά συνέδρια, φόρα πολιτικής και εκδηλώσεις υψηλού επιπέδου, και έχει δώσει προσκεκλημένες διαλέξεις και παρουσιάσεις, μεταξύ άλλων, στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο (επιτροπές PETI και JURI), στην Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, στο Συμβούλιο της Ευρώπης, στην Ακαδημία Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαίου (ERA), στο Ευρωπαϊκό Ινστιτούτο Δημόσιας Διοίκησης (EIPA), στο Equinet, στην ILGA-Europe και στο NELFA, καθώς και σε πανεπιστήμια και ερευνητικά ιδρύματα σε ολόκληρη την Ευρώπη και πέραν αυτής.

Το έργο της έχει σημαντικό αντίκτυπο στο δίκαιο και την πολιτική της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Έχει προσκληθεί να παράσχει εμπειρογνωμοσύνη σε διεθνείς οργανισμούς, συμπεριλαμβανομένων του ODIHR του ΟΑΣΕ και της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής κατά του Ρατσισμού και της Μισαλλοδοξίας (ECRI) του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης. Κατά την περίοδο 2021–2022 υπήρξε μέλος της Ομάδας Εμπειρογνωμόνων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για την Αναγνώριση της Γονεϊκότητας μεταξύ Κρατών Μελών, συμβάλλοντας στην προετοιμασία νομοθετικής πρότασης για τη διασυνοριακή αναγνώριση της γονεϊκότητας στην ΕΕ. Έχει συγγράψει και συν-συγγράψει μελέτες κατόπιν ανάθεσης από το Τμήμα Πολιτικών για τα Δικαιώματα των Πολιτών και τις Συνταγματικές Υποθέσεις του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου (The Cross-Border Recognition of Parenthood in the EU (2023) και Obstacles to the Free Movement Rights of Rainbow Families in the EU (2021)).

Η Δρ. Τρυφωνίδου έχει εκτενή δημοσιευτική δραστηριότητα στον τομέα του δικαίου της ΕΕ, περιλαμβανομένων μονογραφιών, επιμελημένων τόμων, κεφαλαίων σε συλλογικά έργα και άρθρων σε κορυφαία διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένα ακαδημαϊκά περιοδικά, καθώς και εκθέσεων πολιτικής και διαδικτυακών δημοσιεύσεων. Εργάζεται επί του παρόντος σε μονογραφία για τα δικαιώματα των ΛΟΑΤΙ ατόμων στο δίκαιο της ΕΕ, η οποία τελεί υπό έκδοση από τον εκδοτικό οίκο Cambridge University Press και αναμένεται να δημοσιευθεί το 2028. Το έργο της έχει επικληθεί από αρκετούς Γενικούς Εισαγγελείς (Bot, Sharpston, Szpunar και Wathelet) ενώπιον του Δικαστηρίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.
