Η Δρ Αλίνα Τρυφωνίδου είναι, από τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2023, Επίκουρη Καθηγήτρια του Δικαίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και του Οικογενειακού Δικαίου στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Προηγουμένως είχε εργαστεί στα Πανεπιστήμια του Leicester (Λέκτορας, 2007-2011) και Reading (Λέκτορας, 2011-2012 – Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια, 2013-2018 – Καθηγήτρια, 2018-2021) στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, και στο Πανεπιστήμιο Νεάπολις Πάφου (Καθηγήτρια, 2021-2023) στην Κύπρο. Η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου είναι Associate του King’s College (AKC) από το 2008, Επισκέπτρια Καθηγήτρια στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Reading από το 2021 και Fellow του Higher Education Academy (τώρα Advance HE) (HFEA) από το 2016.

Η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου έλαβε Πτυχίο Νομικής (2001), Μεταπτυχιακό Νομικής (2002) και Διδακτορικό Δίπλωμα από το King’s College London, όπου δίδαξε Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκαιο σαν Επισκέπτρια Διδάσκουσα (2005-2007) και Επισκέπτρια Λέκτορας (2010-2011). Το 2003 πέρασε με επιτυχία τις εξετάσεις του Νομικού Συμβουλίου Κύπρου για ασκούμενους δικηγόρους και συμπλήρωσε τον απαιτούμενο χρόνο πρακτικής άσκησης σε δικηγορικό γραφείο. Το 2004, η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου συμπλήρωσε το πρόγραμμα πρακτικής άσκησης της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στις Βρυξέλλες (Γενική Διεύθυνση Εσωτερικής Αγοράς – τώρα, Γενική Διεύθυνση Εσωτερικής Αγοράς, Βιομηχανίας, Επιχειρηματικότητας και ΜΜΕ), το 2010-2011 ήταν Visiting Fellow στο Institute of Advanced Legal Studies(IALS) στο Λονδίνο, και το 2023 ήταν Επισκέπτρια Καθηγήτρια στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Bergamo στην Ιταλία. Το 2021-2022, η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου ήταν μέλος της Ομάδας Εμπειρογνωμόνων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για την Αναγνώριση της Γονεϊκότητας μεταξύ των Κρατών Μελών (Expert Group on the Recognition of Parenthoodbetween Member States), η οποία είχε ως σκοπό να συμβουλεύσει την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή κατά την προετοιμασία της νομοθετικής πρότασης για Κανονισμό ο οποίος θα προνοεί για την διασυνοριακή αναγνώριση της γονεϊκότητας στην ΕΕ. Από το 2021, η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου είναι μέλος του Εκδοτικού Συμβουλίου του περιοδικού Cyprus Review. Το 2024, η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου ανέβαλε ως συν-συντονίστρια του Berkeley Center on Comparative Equality & Anti-Discrimination Law (BCCE) LGBTIQ Working Group.

Το ερευνητικό έργο της Δρ Τρυφωνίδου εστιάζεται στο ουσιαστικό Δίκαιο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ελεύθερη κυκλοφορία), στο Οικογενειακό Δίκαιο, καθώς και στη νομική προστασία των ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ δικαιωμάτων. Είναι συχνή προσκεκλημένη ομιλήτρια σε ακαδημαϊκά συνέδρια και προσκλήθηκε να μιλήσει ενώπιον του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου (τις Επιτροπές Αναφορών και Νομικών Θεμάτων) και να συμβουλεύσει την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή κατά του Ρατσισμού και της Μισαλλοδοξίας του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης. Η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου έχει προσκληθεί να δώσει ομιλίες σε εκδηλώσεις που οργανώθηκαν από την Ομάδα Εργασίας για τα ΛΟΑΤΙ Δικαιώματα του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου, την Αντιπροσωπεία της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στην Κύπρο, τις πολιτικές ομάδες του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου Renew Europe και Socialists and Democrats, το Academy of European Law (ERA), το European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA), καθώς και την ILGA-Europe και τη NELFA. Εκτός από μονογραφίες, κεφάλαια σε συλλογικούς τόμους, άρθρα σε έγκριτα επιστημονικά περιοδικά και blogs και άρθρα που δημοσιεύθηκαν στο διαδίκτυο, η Δρ Τρυφωνίδου έχει εκπονήσει μελέτη με τον τίτλο ‘The Cross-Border Recognition of Parenthood in the EU’ (2023) και έχει συν-συγγράψει μελέτη με τον τίτλο ‘Obstacles to the free movement rights of rainbow families in the EU’ (2021), για την Επιτροπή Αναφορών του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου. Στο έργο της Τρυφωνίδου έχει γίνει αναφορά από διάφορους Γενικούς Εισαγγελείς ενώπιον του Δικαστηρίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΓΕ Bot, Sharpston, Szpunar και Wathelet.
