Ο Ανδρέας Σωτηρίου είναι Καθηγητής Επιχειρησιακής Διοίκησης στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Κατέχει διδακτορικό δίπλωμα (Ph.D., 1994) στη Διοίκηση Επιχειρήσεων από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Νότιας Καλιφόρνιας, ΗΠΑ, στο οποίο έχει επίσης διδάξει πριν την εκλογή του στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Η έρευνα και τα ενδιαφέροντα του επικεντρώνονται κυρίως σε θέματα διοίκησης υπηρεσιών. Εργασίες του έχουν παρουσιαστεί σε διάφορα βιβλία και επιστημονικά περιοδικά διεθνούς κύρους, όπως μεταξύ άλλων το Management Science, Decision Sciences, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, the European Journal of Operational Research, the International Journal of Production and Operations Management, the International Journal of Bank Marketing, the International Journal of Educational Management, Interfaces, Operations Management Research κλπ.
Έχει πάρει αριθμό διεθνών ερευνητικών διακρίσεων και βραβείων. Σε σχετική μελέτη κατετάγη 11ος διεθνώς αναφορικά με ερευνητική δραστηριότητα σε υψηλού κύρους επιστημονικά περιοδικά στο χώρο της Επιχειρησιακής Διοίκησης Υπηρεσιών κατά την περίοδο 1990-2006. Είναι Associate Editor του Operations Management Research στο οποίο διετέλεσε επίσης και ως Regional Editor (Mediterranean, Middle-East and Asia) και διετέλεσε Associate Editor στο Management Science (2006-2008). Είναι ενεργό μέλος στις εκδοτικές επιτροπές διαφόρων επιστημονικών περιοδικών.
Διετέλεσε Πρόεδρος (2006-2008, 2017-2021) και Αντιπρόεδρος (2004-2006, 2021-2023) του Τμήματος Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων και Δημόσιας Διοίκησης του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Διετέλεσε μέλος της διευθυντικής ομάδας του Μεταπτυχιακού Προγράμματος ΜΒΑ του πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου την περίοδο 2006-2016. Την περίοδο 2018-2023 ήταν ο ακαδημαϊκός υπεύθυνος του Έργου "Διασύνδεση των Πανεπιστημίων με την Αγορά Εργασίας" το οποίο έτυχε χρηματοδότησης πέραν των 7 εκατομμυρίων ευρώ από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία. Στο έργο αυτό είχαν εμπλακεί όλα τα Πανεπιστήμια της Κύπρου, προωθώντας το θεσμό της τοποθέτησης σε προγράμματα σπουδών. Διετέλεσε επίσης Διευθυντής του Κέντρου Επιχειρηματικότητας του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (2024-2025), μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του European Operations Management Association (EurOMA), μέλος του Συμβουλίου του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (2016-2018), του Κυπριακού Συμβουλίου Αναγνώρισης Τίτλων Σπουδών (ΚY.Σ.Α.Τ.Σ., 2020-2022) και του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Eurobank Cyprus Ltd. (2014-2023).
Έχει δώσει διαλέξεις σε διάφορα πανεπιστήμια του εξωτερικού πάνω σε θέματα της ειδικότητας του και έχει προσφέρει συμβουλευτικές υπηρεσίες σε θέματα βελτίωσης ποιότητας και διοίκησης υπηρεσιών σε αριθμό οργανισμών στις ΗΠΑ, Ευρώπη και Κύπρο.

According to a recent journal productivity study (Smith et al., 2007, Production and Operations Management, 16(6), 780-790), Andreas Soteriou was tied 11th overall worldwide in individual author contributions in five premier journals (Management Science, Operations Research, Journal of Operations Management, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management and Production and Operations Management) in the field of Service Operations Management, during the period 1990-2006.
