H Δρ. Παναγιώτου αποφοίτησε με τον τίτλο ΒΑ (Psychology and Sociology) το 1991 από το New College/ University of South Florida. Πήρε τον τίτλο masters το 1994 και Ph.D. το 1998 από το Purdue University, Indiana, USA στη Κλινική Ψυχολογία. Ολοκλήρωσε την κλινική της άσκηση στο McLean Hospital/ Harvard Medical School, ενώ εργάστηκε ως επίκουρη καθηγήτρια στο Mississippi State University πριν την επιστροφή της στη Κύπρο. Βρίσκεται στο Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου από το 2001. Τα ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα έχουν να κάνουν με την κατανόηση της λειτουργίας του Συναισθήματος και του ρόλου του στην ανάπτυξη και συντήρηση των ψυχικών διαταραχών. Ασχολείται με θέματα όπως το ρόλο του συναισθήματος του φόβου στη ψυχοπαθολογία, τη ρύθμιση των συναισθημάτων και τη διαχέιρηση τους χρησιμοποιώντας τόσο μεθόδους αυτοαναφοράς όσο και ψυχοφυσιολογικές μετρήσεις. Διευθύνει το εργαστήριο Clinical Psychology and Psychophysiology Lab και είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του Κέντρου Εφαρμοσμένης Νευροεπιστήμης και μέλος του διοικητικού συμβουλίου του Cyprus Cancer Research Institute. Κατέχει άδεια άσκησης του επαγγέλματος του Κλινικού Ψυχολόγου στη Κύπρο.
