Η Μαρία Φιλοκύπρου είναι Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια στο Τμήμα Αρχιτεκτονικής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Σπούδασε Αρχιτεκτονική στο Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο, Αθηνών και συνέχισε τις σπουδές της στο Εδιμβούργο με υποτροφία του Ιδρύματος Ευγενίδη (που δίδεται στον απόφοιτο του ΕΜΠ με τη μεγαλύτερη βαθμολογία στο δίπλωμά του) όπου το 1992 απέκτησε Mάστερ στην Αρχιτεκτονική Συντήρηση (MSc with Distinction) από το Πανεπιστήμιο Heriot–Watt του Εδιμβούργου και το 2000 Διδακτορικό στον τομέα της Ιστορίας της Αρχιτεκτονικής από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Κατά τη διάρκεια των σπουδών της διακρίθηκε με τα βραβεία Α. Σαμαρά και Στ. Στούρνα για τις υψηλές επιδόσεις της καθώς και με την Τιμητική Υποτροφία του ΙΚΥ και του Ιδρύματος Λεβέντη. Πριν το διορισμό της στην παρούσα θέση της στο Τμήμα Αρχιτεκτονικής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου και συγκεκριμένα από το 2006 ανελάμβανε ως ειδικός επιστήμονας στο Τμήμα αυτό τη διδασκαλία μαθημάτων Παραδοσιακής Αρχιτεκτονικής και Ιστορίας της Αρχιτεκτονικής. Είναι επιστημονική υπεύθυνος και συντονίστρια σε αριθμό ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων επιχορηγημένων από το Ίδρυμα Προώθησης Έρευνας και το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Στο παρελθόν ασχολήθηκε ως ιδιώτης αρχιτέκτονας με την αποκατάσταση ιστορικών κτιρίων, ένα από τα οποία - το μοναστήρι της Παναγίας του Σίντη - βραβεύτηκε με το τιμητικό δίπλωμα Europa Nostra 1999. Έχει εργαστεί ως μεταπτυχιακός συνεργάτης στην Ερευνητική Μονάδα Αρχαιολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου, και ως Λειτουργός Πολεοδομίας στον Κλάδο Διατήρησης της Αρχιτεκτονικής Κληρονομιάς του Τμήματος Πολεοδομίας και Οικήσεως (2001-2010). Συμμετέχει με ανακοινώσεις σε κυπριακά και διεθνή συνέδρια και έχει αριθμό δημοσιεύσεων σε τοπικά και διεθνή περιοδικά και πρακτικά συνεδρίων στα θέματα της έρευνάς της.
