Dr. Anthi Loutsiou has been a member of the Department of Psychology, University of Cyprus since 2003 and a member of the ACThealthy Lab since 2022 . She trained as a Clinical Psychologist and a contextual behavior psychotherapist in the USA where she earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver. She is fully qualified as a Psychologist in Cyprus and Colorado/USA (inactive) and became registered as a EuroPsy Certified Psychologist. She is an honorary Fellow of the Association of Contextual Behavioral Science. 

Anthi is a well-rounded and experienced clinician with more than 20 years of clinical expertise with various degrees of psychopathology in various fields of practice, including mental health, schools, workplace, and sports. She has also worked extensively with the general population supporting the psychological needs of individuals, parents, first responders, athletes, managers etc.

Anthi is an accomplished trainer and a pioneer in the training of psychologists in higher education in Cyprus. She is a co-founder of the Department's Master's Program in School Psychology and the PhD Program in Clinical Psychology.  has more than 20 years of teaching and advising experience in higher education. As an instructor/lecturer in the Department, she has mentored more than 160 school psychologists and facilitated the field placement of more than 900 undergraduate psychology students. Anthi is an active supporter of internationalization efforts within the field of psychology and has contributed with great passion to professional service at a national and international level.

  • Lead Internal Examiner for the “Final Professional Competency Exam in School Psychology”
  • Regular Internal Examiner for the "Comprehensive examinations for PhD candidates in Clinical Psychology".

  • Co-Leader, Master’s of School Psychology, University of Cyprus for almost 15 years. During that time, she secured a prestigious international accreditation of the Program by the International School Psychology Association (ISPA), the first such accreditation outside North America.
  • Conference Co-Chair, “21st World Conference of the Association of Contextual Behavior Science”, 2013, Nicosia, Cyprus
  • Convener/Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, “42nd Annual Conference of the International School Psychology Association, Nicosia, Cyprus in 2021
  • Co-founding Member, PhD program in Clinical Psychology, University of Cyprus
  • Designed and implemented the first practical training arrangements for post-graduate professional training in psychology in Cyprus and the first field placement arrangements for the undergraduate psychology curriculum. This work has become the benchmark for other psychology programs in the country.
  • Expanded the Department’s/University’s network of community partners resulting in the signing of memoranda of agreements of the University with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, the Cyprus Red Cross, and the Cyprus National Addictions Authority and key partnerships with the Cyprus Police, Cyprus Fire and Rescue Service, and Cyprus Civil Defence.
  • Organizer, 1st (2020) and 2nd (2022) Nicosia International Symposium on Emergency Psychology. Advocated to affect social policy in Cyprus to include psychosocial support as an integral part of the emergency response after critical incidents in the community.

 

 
Dr. Loutsiou is particularly interested in research projects that have a pragmatic and applied value, especially in strengthening children's and families' resilience.
 
Active REsearch Work 
  • As a principal or collaborating investigator, Anthi has received more than a million euro in total funding over the years for applied research and infrastructure projects.
  • Anthi is an active and proud member of the ACThealthy Lab since 2022
  • She is currently the Principle Investigator of "Stekomaste Mazi Enantia sto Sholiko Ekfovismo" (We Stand Together Against School Bullying), a project that delivers primary schoolwide prevention actions to more than 1800 secodary school students and 300+ teachers in partnership with the Cyprus Youth Council and the Ministry of Education. 
  • Αlong with her research team, she created an innovative behavioral technology to maximize effective parenting skills with younger children which has been tested through clinical trials with 400+ parents across Cyprus 
 
Primary Professional Interests

Anthi is an experienced psychological consultant and trainer across many industry sectors including health, banking, telecommunications, and first/emergency response. She is an advocate of psychological wellbeing in the arenas of everyday life, workplace, parenting, and sports. Her main professional interests include: 

  • Behavioral Technology and Contextual behavior interventions
  • Psychological wellbeing/wellness/resilience and Mental health
  • Psychosocial risks at the workplace (burnout, psychological trauma etc)
  • Parent training and psychoeducation
  • Professional issues and training issues in psychology
  • Psychosocial management of emergencies/critical incidents in the community and psychosocial support for first responders
