Angelo Passuello (Verona, 1986) is a medieval art historian specializing in the study of architectural systems, with particular expertise in roofing structures, construction processes, and material analysis in medieval Europe, especially in Northern Italy.

He is currently a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cyprus (Archaeological Research Unit), where, between 2024 and 2026, he carried out the project The Canopy of Heaven under a Microscope: Cataloguing Medieval Roofs (CaMeRoofs), funded by the European Commission through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, under the supervision of Prof. Michalis Olympios and Prof. Apostolos Sarris.

He earned his Master’s degree in Artistic and Archaeological Disciplines from the University of Verona (2011), followed by a Post-Graduate Specialization in Historical-Artistic Heritage at the University of Padua (2013), and a PhD in the History of Medieval Art from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (2017).

His research integrates art historical analysis with interdisciplinary methodologies—including architectural survey, digital technologies, and material studies—to investigate medieval buildings as complex and stratified systems, with a particular focus on construction practices and the transmission of technical knowledge.

He has held research and teaching positions at several European institutions, including the Universities of Padua, Verona, Florence, and Barcelona, where he has contributed to and led postdoctoral research projects. From 2014 to 2018, he taught at the University of Verona. Since 2021, he has been a member of the International Scientific Committee of the journal Benedictina.

His research has received significant recognition, including the Premio Fondazione di Venezia and the Premio Città di Verona (2013), as well as the Premio Italia Medievale (2019), awarded in the publishing category for his monograph San Lorenzo in Verona: Storia e restauri.

He has presented his research widely at major international conferences across Europe, the United States, and Brazil, including the International Medieval Congress (IMC, Leeds), the International Congress on Medieval Studies (ICMS, Kalamazoo), and the Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA), and has also organized and chaired sessions at these leading venues.

He is the author of several monographs and edited volumes, and of numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings published in international journals and with major academic publishers.

Alongside his academic activity, he is actively engaged in public dissemination, collaborating with cultural institutions and participating in media and television programs.

In 2021, he was awarded the title of Citizen of the Year by the Mayor of Verona, in recognition of his contribution to the study and promotion of medieval Veronese heritage at both national and international levels.
