Irene Katsouri holds a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration from the University in Brighton (2006), a Master’s degree in Interactive Multimedia from the Cyprus University of Technology (2014) and a Masters degree in Field Archaeology on Land and under the Sea from the University of Cyprus (2021).
Between 2015 and 2017, Katsouri has been employed as a research assistant at the Maritime Archaeological Research Laboratory (MARELab), University of Cyprus, thanks to funds provided by the Honor Frost Foundation, United Kingdom. Between 2017 and 2019, she was the MARELab in-charge person for administration duties and data gathering for the multimedia applications developed within the frame of the iMARECULTURE project, funded by the European Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.
A member of the MARELab since 2014, Katsouri has participated in several underwater archaeological projects in Cyprus, including: Mazotos shipwreck project (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019), Nissia shipwreck Project (2014, 2017), Fig Tree Bay Shipwreck Project (2020). She has also participated in the documentation and controlled dismantling of the 20th century wooden ship Agios Spyridon (2018-2019) and activities pertaining to the Traditional Boats Laboratory.
Her research interests include the exploitation of digital data for the documentation, study and dissemination of cultural heritage, digital applications for archaeology and cultural heritage, 2D and 3D visualisation and animation, 3D modelling, virtual and augemented reality.
