Dr. Loukas Dimitriou has completed his undergraduate studies at the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He then obtained a Doctoral Diploma from the Department of Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the NTUA in optimal design of transport systems. During the period 2011-2013 he was Assistant Professor at King Saud University, School of Civil Engineering, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while during the period 2013-2018 Lecturer and 2018-2023 Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering-CEE of the University of Cyprus respectively. He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of CEE of the University of Cyprus, while he is the Head of the Lab for Transport Engineering. His academic and professional activity concerns the quantitative analysis and design of transport systems, the use of empirical data and advanced techniques and methods derived from statistics/econometrics, Artificial Intelligence, system modeling and simulation, to optimize their performance and develop frameworks and decision support mechanisms in this field. The main part of his research concerns the following fields:

- transport planning systems and policies to promote sustainable mobility,

- design and operation of traffic systems,

- design and organization of public transport systems,

- the holistic promotion of micromobility systems and optimal use of energy in transport (pedestrians, bicycles, scooters, electric and hybrid vehicles, etc.),

- application of advanced concepts of entrepreneurship and economics for market analysis and design of transport systems,

- organization and management of shared-use systems,

- design and operation of combined freight transport systems

- integration of urban space and transport planning systems, and

- introduction and application of emerging technologies in the transport.

He is the coordinator for 2 obligatory undergraduate courses and 5 post-graduate courses in the direction of Construction and Transport Infrastructure Management. He publishes widely and serves as a reviewer in the most well-known journals in the field and participates in organizational and scientific committees of a significant number of international conferences. He has received extensive funding from national and European research bodies, while he has also been a reviewer of European research program proposals.
