The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides high quality degree programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These programs emphasize fundamental principles that prepare students for leadership roles in a challenging and rapidly changing technological world. Research and innovation is achieved in an environment that fosters cooperation between faculty, students, industry and research organizations. The faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering comprises of world-class, experienced academicians, who are leaders in their field of expertise.

All programs of postgraduate studies at the University of Cyprus are based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The ECTS is a system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a program by attaching credits to its components. The Department offers the following eight postgraduate programmes:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
  • Ph.D. in Computer Engineering
Students that are admitted into the M.Sc., M.Eng. or Ph.D. programs in Electrical Engineering without having completed an undergraduate Electrical Engineering Degree are expected to have satisfactory knowledge of the following general areas: Signals and Systems, Electromagnetism and Microwaves, Circuits and Electronics. Similarly, students that are admitted into the M.Sc., M.Eng. or Ph.D. programs in Computer Engineering without having completed an undergraduate Computer Engineering Degree are expected to have satisfactory knowledge of the following general areas: Computer Architecture and Organization, Operational Systems and Algorithms. The Academic Advisor of each student should guide him/her in obtaining the required knowledge by enrolling in up to four additional courses from the Department curriculum, possibly at the undergraduate level, from the aforementioned areas.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) Degrees in Electrical / Computer Engineering

A student becomes a candidate for a M.Sc. or M.Eng. degree after successfully being admitted to the Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering postgraduate program. For the fulfillment of a M.Sc. Degree the requirements are:

  • Successful completion of at least 90 ECTS units of graduate level coursework and research work.
  • Attendance of the Postgraduate Seminar Series (total 25 seminars).
  • Approval of the M.Sc. Thesis proposal and progress report, submitted by the student.
  • Successful defense of the M.Sc. Thesis.
For the fulfillment of a M.Eng. Degree the requirements are:
  • Successful completion of at least 90 ECTS units of graduate level coursework, including an individual project course (8 ECTS).
  • Attendance of the Postgraduate Seminar Series (total 12 seminars).
  • Successful completion of an individual study course (ECE723).
The typical duration of a full-time M.Sc. or M.Eng. program is 1 1/2 – 2 years. The maximum duration allowed for a M.Sc. or M.Eng. degree is set by the University regulations and is currently 4 academic years.
