Η Μαρία Κάττου ολοκλήρωσε τις βασικές της σπουδές στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, αποκτώντας πτυχίο Επιστημών της Αγωγής, με Δευτερεύοντα Πρόγραμμα σπουδών στα Μαθηματικά και τη Στατιστική (2006). Ακολούθως ολοκλήρωσε τις μεταπτυχιακές (2008) και διδακτορικές της σπουδές (2013) στη Μαθηματική Παιδεία, στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Από το 2011-2013 εργάστηκε ως Ειδικό Εκπαιδευτικό προσωπικό στα Μαθηματικά στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, ενώ από το 2013-2024 εργάστηκε ως εκπαιδευτικός δημοτικής εκπαίδευσης σε σχολεία της Κύπρου. Συμμετείχε στη διεξαγωγή ερευνών, καθώς και σε αριθμό ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων.
