The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Cyprus has been recognized as the top School of Engineering and Technology in Cyprus and the 48th best in Europe, according to the EngiRank 2024 ranking. This ranking includes 226 academic institutions across the 27 EU member countries as well as Switzerland and Norway, highlighting the significance of this achievement. Notably, to be eligible for the ranking, over 30% of a university\u2019s publications must fall within the fields of engineering and technology.<\/p>\n
The results were announced at a special event in Brussels during the International Conference “Engineering Education for an Innovative and Sustainable Europe,” attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Marina Neophytou. This recognition is particularly notable, as the Faculty was established only 25 years ago and just celebrated its 20th anniversary of academic offerings, now standing alongside historic European polytechnic institutions with over a century of history.<\/p>\n
EngiRank, developed in collaboration with Elsevier, introduces new benchmarks for regional, thematic rankings with indicators specifically crafted for Europe. The methodology combines traditional metrics, such as publications and citations, with specialized criteria like industry collaboration, joint research with businesses, registered patents, contributions to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and engineering program accreditation (from bodies like ENAEE and ABET). Additional evaluation criteria include participation in European programs like Erasmus+ and Horizon, collaborations in European research initiatives (such as those from the European Research Council), and other academic partnerships. Ranking data are sourced from Elsevier\u2019s Scopus, the European Patent Office\u2019s PATSTAT, Horizon Europe, and engineering accreditation bodies.<\/p>\n
This prestigious recognition once again affirms the Faculty of Engineering\u2019s commitment to academic excellence, demonstrating its ability to stand out among top European institutions in a relatively short period.
