{"id":5068,"date":"2025-10-13T10:35:43","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T07:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucy.ac.cy\/governingbodies\/?p=5068"},"modified":"2025-10-24T09:45:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T06:45:38","slug":"yerun-general-assembly-2025-at-the-university-of-cyprus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucy.ac.cy\/governingbodies\/yerun-general-assembly-2025-at-the-university-of-cyprus\/","title":{"rendered":"YERUN General Assembly 2025 at the University of Cyprus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>YERUN General Assembly 2025 at the University of Cyprus<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>7\u20139 October 2025<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The University of Cyprus hosted the General Assembly of the Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN) from 7 to 9 October 2025, bringing together in Nicosia senior leaders and representatives from dynamic research universities across Europe for discussions on the future of research and higher education.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Professor Tatiana-Eleni Synodinou, presented the University of Cyprus\u2019s strategies for advancing research excellence, innovation and collaboration, and participated in discussions on the evolving European Research Area (ERA), academic freedom and the forthcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The programme opened with a presentation by the Rector, Professor Tasos Christofides, while on 8 October the Leaders Workshop focused on policy discussions concerning the ERA Act. Speakers included Ms Magda De Carli, Head of the ERA Unit of the European Commission, Mr Slaven Misljencevic, Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, and Ms Lina Tsoumpanou, Coordinator for European and International Affairs at the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus. In parallel, the YERUN Coordinators Workshop focused on the network\u2019s working methods and future activities, coordinated by the YERUN Office in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>Participants had the opportunity to visit the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence and the CYENS Research Centre of Excellence, as well as to tour the University campus and Nicosia\u2019s old city.
