Welcome to the website of Group Minds in Ancient Narrative!

GROUPMINDS is a research project funded by the European Union in the frame of ERC (European Research Council) Starting Grants (Grant Agreement No. 101115022).

The project aims to offer the first study of group cognition in ancient Greek and Latin narratives. It envisages the following objectives: (1) to analyse the techniques by which group minds are narrativised, and thus construct the first narratology of collectives; (2) to propose a historical angle for the consideration of how narrative affects our determination of social cognition and the constitution of our folk psychology; (3) to offer an original study of the conceptualisation and experience of collective consciousness and intersubjectivity in pre-modern cultures; and (4) to impact current philosophical, cognitive, and phenomenological debates on different aspects of social and group cognition.
