We are pleased to announce that our Principal Investigator, Dr. Chrysanthos S. Chrysanthou, will be participating as a panelist at the Cyprus Forum 2025: Cyprus at the Heart of Dialogue on Democracy and Peace, held in Nicosia from 1\u20133 October 2025.<\/p>\n
Dr. Chrysanthou will join the session \u201cThe triple threat to democracy: Corruption, cronyism and mediocrity\u201d.<\/p>\n
Old Nicosia Town Hall, Zeno Room<\/em> Alongside distinguished co-panelists Phedonas Phedonos (Mayor of Pafos) and Wassim El-Hajj (Rector, AUB Mediterraneo), the discussion will be chaired by Sotiris Paroutis, journalist at OMEGA. In an era when democracy is increasingly tested by corruption, cronyism, and mediocrity, collective action and civic responsibility are more crucial than ever. Dr. Chrysanthou will bring into the conversation insights from the ERC project Group Minds in Ancient Narrative<\/em>, highlighting how group cognition and shared moral agency\u2014concepts deeply rooted in both ancient thought and modern political philosophy\u2014remain essential to the preservation of democratic life.<\/p>\n The University of Cyprus, as a hub of research and critical inquiry, stands firmly by democracy, working to consolidate democratic values against these threats and to foster transparency, accountability, and civic engagement.<\/p>\n The Cyprus Forum 2025 will once again transform Nicosia into a meeting point of ideas, where leaders from Cyprus, Europe, and beyond will exchange perspectives on democracy, peace, and sustainable futures.<\/p>\n
