Turkish, like Greek is one of the two official languages of the Republic of Cyprus. Good knowledge of the Turkish language is an advantage and is considered as an additional qualification for employment. In addition the cooperation of companies between the two communities in the private sector and the daily communication with Turkish Cypriots is a reality.

The Turkish language courses are designed to help students to become familiar with the Turkish language and culture. They prepare the students to use the language in their professional and social life. Students will develop Turkish language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The courses are designed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Courses

LAN 050: Turkish - Beginners I (5 ECTS)
The beginner Turkish course is intended to introduce students to the Turkish language and prepare them to use the language in their future working life or daily social activities. They will gain confidence expressing themselves by using simple sentences and exchanging ideas about the culture of the target language. This course will help students to develop Turkish language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing at a level equivalent to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages at the A1.1 level (CEFR).

By successfully completing this course, students will have a substantial advantage for their future careers and be able to take the LAN 051 Turkish Course.
LAN 051: Turkish - Beginners II (5 ECTS)
LAN 052: Turkish - Intermediate level I (5 ECTS)
LAN 053: Turkish – Intermediate level II (5 ECTS)
LAN 150: Turkish for Medicine - Beginners level I (5 ECTS)
LAN 151: Turkish for Medicine - Beginners level II (5 ECTS)
LAN 152: Turkish for Law (5 ECTS)
This course is designed for Law students who have a basic knowledge of Turkish, Level A1 and aims to meet the needs of students who are studying in the field of Law. Specifically, students learn to understand small extracts from legal texts, read and discuss articles of the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus (RoC) in Turkish, as well as texts of the European Union, the UN Charter, International Conventions, etc.

Through the study of texts, grammatical and syntactic phenomena of Turkish are analysed which correspond to A2 of CEFR.
