The laboratory employs a state-of-the-art computer cluster for computationally-intensive, full-system, cycle-accurate simulations, and digital system development. The cluster’s salient features are:
  • 30 quad-core Intel Xeon E5620 CPUs (120 processing cores, 240 simultaneous threads) at 2.4 GHz
  • 480 GB of RAM
  • 16.2 TB of hard-disk space
  • Simics/GEMS/Garnet full-system simulator executing real applications running on commodity operating systems
  • Condor workload management system (job queueing, scheduling, prioritization, resource monitoring, and resource management)

multiCAL also utilizes several Xilinx Virtex-5-based FPGA Prototyping Boards to facilitate validation/verification and high-speed emulation of developed designs.
