My years of studies at the Physics Department of the University of Cyprus (UCY) were a journey into science, through the eyes and knowledge of renowned professors and great scientists that I was lucky enough to meet. A long stroll through a huge library of knowledge from nucleons to black holes, from Newton’s apple to special relativity. As an undergraduate and postgraduate student in the Department of Physics, I had the opportunity not only to learn about our world and how it works, but also to develop the skills to carry for my entire life. The way of thinking, the organization and consistency, and all these other things one is taught by studying at the Physics Department of UCY, is at the same time the gateway to the path to success in whatever each one of us chooses to follow. A physics graduate does not only enter the society better educated but is also ready to handle whatever problem assigned to him or her. Today, after my undergraduate and graduate theses in which I analyzed proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS detector at the LHC accelerator at CERN, I work as a data analyst in the business sector (for-profit and non-profit organizations) and re-discover the magic of the data mining and analysis through a completely different world.
