Πήρα Πτυχίο στη Βιολογία από το ομώνυμο Τμήμα του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (1988) και τον τίτλο του Διδάκτορα της Βιολογίας από το ίδιο Τμήμα (1994). Από το 1996 έως το 2001 εργάστηκα ως Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης στο Ζωολογικό Μουσείο του Παν. Αθηνών. Το 2001 εκλέχθηκα Λέκτορας (Οικολογίας Χερσόβιων Ζωικών Οργανισμών) στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών (Τμήμα Βιολογίας) και το 2006 Επίκουρος Καθηγητής (Οικολογίας και Βιογεωγραφίας Χερσόβιων Ζωικών Οργανισμών) στο ίδιο Τμήμα. Τον Ιανουάριο του 2012 ανέλαβα καθήκοντα ως Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής Οικολογίας και Βιοποικιλότητας (και από το 2018 Καθηγητής) στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (Τμήμα Βιολογικών Επιστημών).
Τα ερευνητικά μου ενδιαφέροντα αφορούν το πεδίο της ανάλυσης των προτύπων της βιοποικιλότητας, με έμφαση στις χερσαίες βιοκοινότητες αρθροπόδων. Ιδιαίτερα, με ενδιαφέρουν ερωτήματα νησιωτικής βιογεωγραφίας, τόσο σε θεωρητικό όσο και σε εμπειρικό επίπεδο, και η διερεύνηση παραγόντων που καθορίζουν ή επηρεάζουν την ποικιλότητα σε νησιωτικούς βιοκόσμους. Εξετάζω επίσης τη διαφοροποίηση αρθροπόδων σε νησιωτικές περιοχές, καθώς και κατά μήκος υψομετρικών διαβαθμίσεων, τόσο σε φαινοτυπικό όσο και σε μοριακό επίπεδο. Επιπλέον, είμαι ειδικός στην ταξινόμηση των χερσόβιων ισοπόδων (Crustacea, Isopoda, Oniscidea) και έχω περιγράψει περί τα 20 νέα είδη για την επιστήμη. Παράλληλα, ασχολούμαι με την έρευνα πτυχών της οικολογίας, της εξέλιξης και της συμπεριφοράς και άλλων οργανισμών, όπως ερπετών και πτηνών, αλλά ακόμα και θαλάσσιων ομάδων και απολιθωμένων ειδών. Γενικότερα, με ενδιαφέρει η μελέτη και η προστασία της βιοποικιλότητας της Κύπρου και της Ελλάδας. Τέλος, θεωρώ σημαντικό να συμβάλλω στη διάδοση της επιστήμης και του επιστημονικού τρόπου σκέψης στην ευρύτερη κοινωνία.
