RESEARCH & EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES

2023-2025: George K. Katsimbalis Archive: Documentation, Classification, and Digitalisation. Internal Research Project, UCY. Project Coordinator. In collaboration with the post-doc researcher Dr. Vasiliki Lampropoulou, University of Athens. Internal Research Project of the University of Cyprus. Duration: March 2023 - February 2025), budget 60.000 euro.

2020-2023:  Friends of the Other War": The shaping of Seferis’s political thought through his relationship with British intellectuals during the WW II and the impact on his work with a particular focus on Cyprus (1944-1963). Internal Research Project, UCY. Project Coordinator. In collaboration with the post-doc researcher Dr. Vasiliki Lampropoulou, University of Athens. Research project under the funding scheme for postdoctoral researchers “ONISILOS”. Duration: September 2020 - February 2023), budget 70.000 euro. The research project focuses on Seferis’ relations with the British intelligentsia, starting from the so-called “Dekemvriana” of 1944 in Athens and the re-foundation of the Athens British Council in 1945 up to the poet’s international distinction with the 1963 Nobel Prize (which many linked to his stance on the Cyprus problem). More specifically, the research Project aims at shedding light to Seferis’ political and poetic self-awareness in the crucial years of the post-war era, by gathering and studying mainly sources yet untapped in research. The study of these sources may lead to a new interpretation of Seferis’ poetry, providing a deeper understanding not only of his oeuvre but also of the interconnection between literature and politics, as evident by the poet’s “cultural diplomacy” in relation to the English political and intellectual establishment.

The specific aim of my research was to identify a) the influence of significant texts of the classic and late Antiquity (Aristotle’s theory on dreams, Artemidorus’ Oneirocritica etc.), and b) the influence of the Western tradition, in particular from the Italian Renaissance and the Baroque era, in the works of the Cretan Renaissance Literature (especially on those written by Phalieros, Bergadis, Chortatsis, Kornaros, Troilos).
