EDU 653: Cognitive Constrains in Learning Natural Sciences
The main purpose of the course is to present up-to-date theories on knowledge construction and cognitive change of students’ alternative ideas, the design of educational interventions to detect these alternative ideas of students and to alter these initial ideas of students in perceptions closest to the scientific knowledge.

EDU 660: Design, Development and Evaluation of Curricula in Science Education
The course aims in supporting students to design, develop and evaluate curricula and specifically science curricula. Students participating in this course will be introduced on theories on curriculum design, development and assessment. In addition, they will explore systematic approaches to the design of curricula emphasizing principles such as conceptual hierarchies and epistemological analysis in determining activity sequences and cross-connections. We discuss ways of promoting the effectiveness of curricula in guiding students to overcome specific conceptual, reasoning, and epistemological difficulties. We examine issues related to the implementation of curricula, in particular, the role of facilitator questions in open and guided inquiry, the practical aspects of systematic development of a coherent conceptual framework and the integrated development of conceptual understanding and reasoning skills. Finally, we explore different methods for validating curriculum materials in relation to the intended objectives of conceptual understanding and the development of reasoning and investigative skills.

EDU 664: Integrated Curricula in Natural Sciences
The main purpose of the course is to design, develop and evaluate curriculum and teaching materials which are aiming at integrating physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and technology all together. Additionally, the course will introduce the big ideas of science and major scientific practices that transcend all the domains of the natural sciences, technology and engineering, and focus on integration strategies. One last aim of the course, is to introduce to the student s various STEM frameworks and discuss the possibilities of bringing together science, technology, engineering and mathematics together.
