Free REGROUP public event in Nicosia, Cyprus on June 15th!
The COVID-19 pandemic turned democratic politics into crisis politics. It saw democratically elected leaders implement difficult, often unpopular, measures following expert advice. A number of fundamental freedoms, such as the freedom to move freely and assemble peacefully, were curtailed. Public discussion about competing ideologies and appropriate policies were often overtaken by conspiracy theories and moral posturing. The public event will explore how democracies in Europe overcame these challenges and what the legacy of the pandemic is for future crisis politics.
Panel discussion with:
- Zoi-Dorothea Pana, European University of Cyprus
- Giorgos Charalambous, University of Nicosia
- Lars Rensmann, University of Passau
Moderated by: Dr. Michalis Moutselos, University of Cyprus
