CONFERENCE: "Promoting Quality in Education: A Dynamic Approach"

The conference entitled "Promoting Quality Education: A Dynamic Approach" was held on Saturday September 22, 2012 at 9:00 until 13:00 at the University of Cyprus. The results of the international research program "Establishing a knowledge-base for quality in education: Testing a dynamic theory of educational effectiveness" in which six European countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Germany, Ireland, Slovenia) participated and a project of school-based in-service training, which was conducted in elementary schools in Cyprus were presented.

The program is funded by the Research Promotion Foundation and aims to develop a theoretical framework that can be used to provide answers to contemporary debates about improving learning outcomes, but also on specific issues dealing with educational policy such as the national policy for the quality of teaching, the policy for initial teacher training and professional development and policy on the learning environment of schools.

The survey results are particularly important for improving teaching and teacher training programs and the conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of education, the Educational Service Commission, the Teacher's Union and the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute.

International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement

In January 2011 the 24th International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI) was held in Limassol, Cyprus. ICSEI conference is an annual event that provides an opportunity for researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from all over the world to come together and address issues of equity and excellence in education. In this way stronger links will be established among researchers, policy-makers and practitioners, in order to promote quality in education.

At the conference several papers were presented concerning our project for "Establishing a knowledge-base for quality in education: Testing a dynamic theory of educational effectiveness", some of which are included in Presentations.
