Turnitin is a similarity-checking tool widely used in the academic community. It compares student assignment submissions with an extensive database (other student papers, scholarly publications, and web content) and generates the Similarity Report. It also includes an AI content checker, known as the AI writing indicator, which helps identify cases where AI text-generation systems (e.g. ChatGPT), paraphrasing tools (text spinners), or AI bypassers ("humanizers") may have been used.This indicator is supplementary and does not constitute proof of AI use or plagiarism on its own. Results must be interpreted with academic judgment, as false positives are possible. At the University of Cyprus, Turnitin is available through Blackboard, Moodle, and Turnitin Draft Coach (for Google Docs and Microsoft Word).
