General Information on Student Mobility for Studies

The Erasmus+ Studies Program allows you to study at another European university with which your Department has an Erasmus+ agreement. As an Erasmus student, you can attend courses for 2-12 months, take exams, and transfer ECTS credits from the host university to the University of Cyprus. The courses you attend abroad and the ECTS credits earned will count towards your degree.

You can participate for a duration of 2 to 12 months. If you are a PhD student, you can participate for a shorter period, ranging from 5 to 30 days. A prerequisite for short-term mobility is that it must grant at least 3 ECTS credits and include a virtual component. Blended mobility is also permitted—combining distance learning with physical mobility (minimum physical duration 2 months, maximum 12 months)—for participants falling into categories of people with fewer opportunities. Participation in Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) is also available.

Erasmus+ Studies: The Program, Participation Requirements, and Destinations

University of Cyprus students can study at European universities to complete part of their studies (one or two semesters) from their second year onwards (up to 12 months in each study cycle for Erasmus+ studies and/or Erasmus+ placements).

Study exchanges are based on the mutual recognition of educational programs between the sending and receiving universities. This is achieved through the implementation of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Under this system, 60 ECTS credits represent the workload of one academic year, while 30 ECTS credits represent the workload for one semester.

A strictly necessary condition for these exchanges is the existence of an Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement between the sending and receiving institutions in the student’s specific field of study.

The Erasmus+ Program provides funding to students to carry out their mobility; students do not pay tuition fees to the host university and have full access to all services offered to the host institution’s own students.

Where can you go?

There are Erasmus+ agreements with over 300 universities in 30 destination countries. You can go to:

  • One of the 27 EU member states.

  • One of the 3 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA).

  • One of the EU candidate countries.

  • Countries outside Europe under specific conditions (all other countries in the world, divided into geographical regions).

More information is also available on the website of the Cyprus Erasmus National Agency (IDEP Lifelong Learning)

The list of partner universities per department where students can move is updated every semester; therefore, the latest version is available each time a new call for applications is published.

OLS Language Support

All students participating in the Erasmus+ Studies Program must complete a self-assessment in the language of instruction or the language spoken in the host country via the OLS assessment tool available on the EU Academy.

  • Students moving to universities in Greece where the language is Greek are exempt.

  • Students also have the opportunity to attend online language courses (OLS Courses).

  • The tool is offered in all official EU languages.

The assessment ensures students meet the language level required by the host institution. The results do not exclude you from participating in the program. During your stay, you can access live coaching, videos, podcasts, and webinars to improve your skills. Upon return, a final assessment is completed to measure progress.
