Powerful, Wicked, and Female: The Gendered Construction of Byzantine Women in Modern Greek Theatre

BStage at Zenoneio Free University, Larnaca

The Zenoneio Free University of Larnaca hosts a public lecture on how Byzantium comes alive on the modern Greek stage, entitled “Byzantines on Stage: Modern Greek Theatre with Byzantine Themes”, on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the “Ammochostos” Municipal Cultural Centre in Larnaca. Dr Andria Andreou (Centre for Medieval Arts and Rituals, University of Cyprus) will explore Byzantine-inspired dramas of the 19th and 20th centuries and how theatre reshapes our view of the past.
