Call for Papers Workshop ‘Constructing and performing hope in the premodern world’ April 13-14, 2023, Tampere University, Finland.
Oana Maria Cojocaru, Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Ville Vuolanto, University Lecturer, at Tampere Institute for Advanced Study, Finland, are organizing and inviting to a workshop (April 13-14, 2023) leading to a volume of collected essays on the topic of constructing and performing hope in the premodern world, a topic that has been seldom touched upon in the research.
The aim of the workshop and volume is to investigate how hope functioned in premodern societies, paying attention to how hope and futurity are structured in life strategies and how they are performed in the contexts of different cultural scripts. The format of the workshop is based on circulating the early drafts beforehand, so that all the participants will have had the time and space to carefully consider each other’s contributions. The full 9000-word contribution to the volume would ideally grow from that draft by incorporating feedback, ideas, insights, gained from the discussions and will have to be submitted at a later stage. Oana and Ville believe that this will ensure a productive starting point for the edited volume they intend to produce.
If you are interested in this project, submit the title of your presentation and a short abstract of ca. 300-500 words with the description of the theme, methodology, main questions, and sources by May 20, 2022.
