“Engineering at the Crossroads: Challenges and Opportunities in a Changing Landscape”| 3 February 2026

The European organization Joint Research Centre, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, University of Cyprus, is pleased to organize an online event entitled “Engineering at the Crossroads: Challenges and Opportunities in a Changing Landscape”, on Tuesday, 03 February 2026, from 13:00 to 14:00 (Cyprus time).

The keynote speaker is Professor Marina Neophytou, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

The talk will focus on the role of the Faculty of Engineering in a context of geopolitical shifts, climate and social pressures, and rapid technological change. Specifically, within the framework of the Faculty’s ongoing strategic planning for research priorities and future directions, this talk serves as a starting point for discussion on how global and local dynamics intersect with Cyprus’s unique geopolitical and developmental position, and how excellence can be balanced with accountability, ambition with collaboration, and innovation with integrity—while also taking into account the opportunities and tensions introduced by defence-oriented European funding.
