Dr. Christiana Karayianni
Researcher Cyprus Peace Project
Christiana Karayianni has an interdisciplinary educational background which combines media and cultural studies together with art and that is what defines her approach as a scholar. She holds a PhD in Media & Cultural Studies, University of Sussex, UK (2011). Christiana pursued her BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from the University of the West of England and continued her education in London at the University of the Arts, London College of Communication, from where she received an MA with a specialisation in Interactive Media. Since 2005, she teaches media, journalism and art-related courses in the Department of Journalism, Communication and Media at Frederick University in Cyprus. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Human Rights and Constitutional Studies and a regular reviewer in international academic journals, as an expert in the field of Media and Cultural Studies in Cyprus. Christiana joined academia due to her strong interest in producing research that would contribute to social change. Born in Cyprus she developed a critical stance towards the suppressing forces in the Cypriot society that impose and construct meanings according to their political, financial and personal interests. A suppression that consequently deepens the gap between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities instead of diminishing it, and that is why Christiana is committed to research that exposes social injustice and amplifies the voices of resistance.

Dr. Dora Georgiou
Dora Georgiou has an educational background in sociology and psychology, combining macro and micro lenses at her approach to understanding humans. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology (University of Cyprus, 2019), an MA in Social and Developmental Psychology (University of Cyprus, 2012), and a BA (Hons, double) in sociology and psychology from Roosevelt University (U.S.A, 2002). Dora Georgiou is a registered clinical psychologist with the Cyprus Registry of Psychologists and has been practicing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for the past five years. Both in clinical practice and in research, Dora has a focus on the physiology of emotion, and anxiety disorders and thus dedicated her doctoral dissertation to examining the psychophysiology of intergroup anxiety in Cyprus. Dora has published her work in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented her work at international conferences in the field of clinical and social psychology. Within the field of social psychology her research interests lie in parameters of social identity and their interplay with intergroup emotions and prosocial behaviors and intentions. As a citizen of Cyprus living in a culture of longstanding intergroup hostility and intransigence, and a global citizen simultaneously, Dora gravitated towards understanding ways of overcoming harmful prejudice towards a more inclusive and just society.
