The Annual Meeting of the Finnish Society for Byzantine Studies will be held on September 29, 2021 at 18.00 EET online via Zoom (link below).
We have the great honour to have with us as our keynote speaker Associate Professor Stavroula Constantinou, Director of the Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals (University of Cyprus) who will be speaking on
Arts and Rituals of Death in Byzantine Literature.
Stavroula Constantinou has published widely and on a variety of themes in Byzantine studies. Her monograph, Female Corporeal Performances: Reading the Body in Byzantine Passions and Lives of Holy Women and her other publications explore hagiography, gender, body, emotions, and power relations.
The Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals (CeMAR) at the University of Cyprus promotes groundbreaking interdisciplinary research in medieval studies. It houses all disciplines associated with the Humanities (Archaeology, History, Linguistics, Philology, Literature, Classics, Medieval Studies, Philosophy, Theology, Anthropology, Musicology, Visual Arts, Performance Arts, and Cultural Studies) – fields represented in CeMAR by members of the academic staff, postdoctoral associates, as well as several international scholars and researchers who have lent their support to CeMAR.
